Film Fan Fridays for Friday February 6, 2009!

Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!

Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday February 6, 2009! It sure feels like a regular Friday when we have 8 new releases to pour over. Two are Canadian (yay!) and two have Dakota Fanning. No overlap on the two, or the four depending on how you look at it.

In limited release this week we have both of the Canadian films of the week, first up is Nurse.Fighter.Boy which looks fantastic and touching. Next up is Know Your Mushrooms, this fungi documentary expands from last weeks special screening to a theatrical run. Go Shrooms go! The highly acclaimed Wendy and Lucy gets its Toronto release and has make many top ten lists from 2008, including top honours from the Toronto Film Critics. The last of our limited releases is Cassandra's Dream. I thought Taken was a long time coming here but Cassandra's Dream takes the cake. It was in TO back at TIFF'07 and looked like it wouldn't get a theatrical releases but here we are with another Woody Allen film. The trailer reminds me of In Bruges, but played straight.

In wide release this week we have the wild and creepy animated world in Coraline, adapted from the Neil Gaiman book and from the director of A Nightmare Before Christmas. Now that is my kinda kids film! It's playing in 3D or 2D depending on theatre, so make sure to check your local listings if you have a preference. We have the first of many superhero themed films of 2009 this week with Push starring Chris Evans (Sunshine) and Dakota Fanning. I know I'll be seeing it. Rounding out the wide releases are the romantic comedy He's Just Not That Into You and regular comedy The Pink Panther 2.

Have a great weekend!

Shannon
