The Three Musketeers in Theatres October 21, 2011

It's less than a week away to the release of our August Book to Film Club book selection and I'm very excited as it looks like an exciting & fun film full of action and intrigue and I'm very certain it will be more fun to watch the film than the challenge it was to get through the book! Wow, that was a long one. I'm very happy to see it interpreted on the big screen.

The Raven Trailer

October is a spooky month and it's perfect timing for the debut of the trailer for The Raven, which is a fictionalized period piece/biopic centred on Edgar Allen Poe (played by John Cusack), which drips of gothic with a mystery/suspense spin and a Sherlock Holmes-y feel to it. The film also starts Luke Evans & Alice Eve, is directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin) and will hit theatres March 9, 2012.



Anonymous hits theatres October 28, 2011

Shakespeare fans I'm sure are looking forward to this film set in Elizabethan England and explores the idea of whether or not Shakespeare was the actual writer of all the plays we think he was. Stars Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill, Mr. Nobody), Rafe Spall (One Day) and Vanessa Redgrave as Queen Elizabeth I; directed by Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012). It's currently tied for first in the current poll for most anticipated October releases so I know it's going to be one I'll be seeing as well, and happily at that.

Book to Film Selection The Woman in Black: Image, Trailer & Release Date



I love this image release for the upcoming film The Woman in Black. The films is a supernatural thriller follows a young lawyer who goes to small town which has a menacing spectre and stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter series), Ciarán Hinds (The Eclipse) and Janet McTeer, directed by James Watkins (Eden Lake). The Woman in Black is part of the Movie Moxie Book to Film Club, and we will be reading the book by Susan Hill in the near future, and the film will be released on February 3, 2012. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - Trailer Released!



Trailer popped up for this espionage story set during cold war and following George Smiley an intelligence expert pulled out semi-retirement. Film stars Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds (The Eclipse), directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In / Låt den rätte komma in) and is based on the novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John le Carré. This one almost made this years book to film club but we didn't hear a release date until very recently - too bad as it would have been great timing for it's November 18, 2011 (North American), September 16, 2011 (UK) releases.







More Book to Film Goodness Among New TIFF 2011 Titles

TIFF announced lots and lots of titles earlier in the week from Cuban zombies to Japanese monster flick, but these book to film adaptations were the ones that popped out of the mix to me:

• Wuthering Heights from director Andrea Arnold (Red Road, Fish Tank) starring Kaya Scodelario and James Howson. I read the book last year and found it a challenge but I'm very curious to see the adaptation.
• Killer Elite, will have it's World Premiere at TIFF, it's an action flick starring Jason Statham, Clive Owen, Yvonne Strahovski, Robert De Niro and Dominic Purcell directed by Gary McKendr. The film is an adaptation of The Feather Men by Sir Ranulph Fiennes and is centred on assassinations of members of the SAS an there iscontroversy over the 'based on true events' aspect of the novel it is noted here as "based on a true story". Regular release date for The Killer Elite is September 23, 2011
• The First Man, an adaptation of Albert Camus' autobiographical novel with from director Gianni Amelio.

And of course we have one of our August Book to Film Club Films in theatres this weekend with One Day. I've pulled together some questions to ponder for book to film clubbers here, and I'm still in pondering the film myself, mostly in how much I liked it and felt it kept true to the book. The Raven Poster

Is it too early to start talking 2012? I hope not as some of the titles are sounding pretty exciting, including The Raven, a fictionalized period piece/biopic centred on Edgar Allen Poe (played by John Cusack), and whole new genre in the works on this one. Sound like a mystery/thriller and has a bit of a Sherlock Holmes-y feel (see more images below) and alongside with John Cusack we have Alice Eve and Luke Evans, who if you don't know yet you will soon as he's in several upcoming films including The Immortals, The Three Musketeers and The Hobbit (both parts) The Raven directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin) and is set to release on March 9, 2012.



Catching Fire Film Gets a Release Date

Well if it's not to early to talk 2012, might as well go further into the future with the 2013 and the post apocalyptic The Hunger Games Trilogy news. Even though the first film, The Hunger Games isn't being released until March 23, 2012 it's been getting more buzz that a bee in spring. The second film in the trilogy, Catching Fire, received a release date earlier this week of November 22, 2013 (aka the Twilight weekend). The young adult trilogy has taken fans of all ages by storm and now appears to be one of the biggest anticipated series adaptations out there.



The Adventures of Tin Tin Trailer Release

Although not a book to film selection, I'm sure many are fans of the comic books. I've never read them, but was very impressed by the mystery and adventure displayed in the trailer. The film comes out late December 2011 just in time for the holidays.

The Help in theatres from August 10, 2011



Our July Book & August Film is now on theatres to enjoy. Check out the film post for thoughts to ponder when reflecting on the film. If you haven't yet seen it, I highly recommending reading the book first. If you've reviewed the film, feel free to send my a link to your review and I'll add it to our home base page for the film. There is lots of buzz out there on the film which is exciting to see, I enjoyed this interview with Octavia Spencer (who plays Minny) over at Women & Hollywood, plus Entertainment Weekly is already speculating on Oscar possibilities and The Help already made $9.9 Million during it's first two days or release.



Jane Eyre on DVD August 16, 2011



Another one of our film selections is hitting the shelves very, very soon. Jane Eyre hits DVD on Tuesday August 16, 2011 and it's packed with extras including commentary from director Cary Fukunaga, deleted scenes and look at the score and lighting. Look for a full review of the DVD here at Movie Moxie on Tuesday!



One Day in Theatres Next Week!



First a drought and then a storm! After months film titles to see we now we get two back to back. I hope you don't mind heading out to the theatre two weeks in a row as One Day hits theatres August 19, 2011. We read it back in May and it was set to release in July, but we are finally getting it this week. I'm really looking forward to this one as I absolutely adored the book by David Nicolls that follows two people and their relationship as it touches on the same day year after year. The film stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. I literally can't wait to see it.
