[2011.04.03] WAYNE LAI REMEMBERS CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC

Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung yesterday attended a charity event. In TVB series FEI FU Kenneth Ma Kwok Ming's hostage scene reminded people of the Philippines hostage incident. The outside thought the scene crossed the line; Cheung Jai thought that it was very hard to control. The script was the creator's issue. Actors could only do their part. However he did not agreed with stories that cross the line too far. Ultimately television had to be socially responsible and try to make more positive subjects.

Cheung Jai years ago also had into a similar situation. Back then he took a role in the film HUMAN PORK CHOP (SONG JUNG TIN LEUNG). Because the story was related to the "Hello Kitty corpse case" he hesitated initially because he did not want to use this tragedy as a gimmick. Later he understood that as long as he looked at it positively and shot from a positive and warning angle actually the problem would not be too bad.

[2011.01.28] SANDRA NG FALLS UNDER WAYNE LAI'S SPELL

Last year Shaw's 72 TENTANTS OF PROSPERITY (72 GA JO HAT) performed decently. This Lunar New Year it followed up with a housing estate story I LOVE HONG KONG (NGOR OI HK HOI SUM MAN SHUI). Continuing to direct and star, Eric Tsang Chi Wai this time approached Sandra Ng Kwan Yu, Tony Leung Ka Fai and other Best Actor and Best Actress level stars to
carry the load. Although Kwan Yu this time was unable to work with the internationally renowned Asia Pacific Most Popular Male Singer Raymond Lam Fung, she complimented the TVB Best Actor Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung. She said that while working on I she brought luck to Cheung Jai and helped him win Best Actor again.

Ng Kwan Yu worked with Lai Yiu Cheung for the first time this time, which she was happy about and said that after working with Cheung Jai he was able to win the TVB Best Actor again. She brought him luck. Kwan Yu said, "Who doesn't want to work with TVB Best Actor? He was very busy and had no time to guest star. I told him only by guest starring would he win Best Actor. Finally that night I presented the award to him. I didn't even have to look at the letter I already knew he would definitely win!" Kwan Yu honestly said that she also liked Cheung Jai
personally because in the recent decade she has never seen such an ordinary looking man with such charm. She said, "When I watch him in a romance on the silver screen, I can say any woman would find him very attractive. In addition he has toiled in the industry for years, women could easily fall for him!" As for the film lacking TVB's top star Lam Fung, would she regret it? She said, "I feel Lam Fung is thriving, he is so handsome! (Miriam Yeung) Chin Wa after working him won Best Actress. I feel he is OK and has potential, but in order to carry the box office I still have to watch a few more movies!" Often the prank victim in past movies, Kwan Yu in I continued to be tortured. She honestly said that she has not played a similar character in years and she was very happy. She said, "I used to always play the lower tier, but I am more upper tier. This time in the film Leung Ka Fai hit him and Lai Yiu Cheung slapped me silly, some couldn't even be faked! However I was very happy to be abused!" In addition, Kwan Yu said that in the film she reunited with the 90s THE INSPECTOR WEARS SKIRTS (BA WONG FA) film series co-stars Stanley Fung Shui Fan, Wu Ma and others. With friends like Felix Wong Yat Wa and Chik Mei Chun she took the chance to talk about the past. When asked about returning home to TVB for a series, Kwan Yu honestly said that she was tired of acting and for now had no plan of making a series. She said, "Once the time I spent promoting a movie could make many movies. I have worked on a movie for 30 days and promoted for 30 days. Earlier in Beijing I was interviewed from 10AM to midnight! This year with two movies my workload doubled!"

The Derek Yee Tung Sing and Henry Fong Ping produced, Derek Chiu Sung Kei directed film THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED (YUT LO YAU NEI) two nights ago held its premiere. Actors Louis Koo Tin Lok, Karen Mok Man Wai, Huang Yi and others attended. Guests included Paw Hee Ching, Elena Kong Mei Yee, Shum Chi Ming and others. Goo Jai was made fun of for his
Putonghua pronunciation from a previous "tire" ad, this time in the film he had to speak Putonghua. Co-stars Mok Man Wai and Huang Yi praised Goo Jai's Putonghua improvement.

Goo Jai in the film played a China Hong Kong truck driver. In the film he had some memorable scenes. In one scene he and Lai Yiu Cheung took a beating. During rehearsal, the tables were already flying. During the official shoot they had to look out for themselves. In another scene
in which he took a beating, although he was used with a fake brick he still had minor injuries. This Lunar New Year Goo Jai will have two films ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL 2011 (JUI KEUNG HEI SI) and MR. AND MRS. INCREDIBLES (SUN KEI NUI HUP) so he will be busy promoting. However, he would like the most for both films to perform well at the box office.

Koo Tin Lok and Huang Yi in the film had romantic scenes in which they had to speak Putonghua. Goo Jai said that during the shoot he asked her for help. He honestly said that acting with non native tongue was difficult. Was he very worried when he first learned about the Putonghua lines? Goo Jai pointed out that this film was about after the Hand Over how Hong Kong people constantly worked in the Mainland, thus his pronunciation did not have to be too accurate.

However, Mok Man Wai praised Goo Jai's improvement. She said that she has seen Goo Jai's Mainland tire ad. This time he truly has improved a lot. Reportedly Stephen Fung Tak Lun and Vivian Hsu (Tsui Yeuk Suen) broke up, Mok Man Wai had no idea and did not read the report as she just returned from the Mainland. She honestly said that she has kept in contact with Fung Tak Lun.

[2010.12.14] WAYNE LAI TAKES A REAL BEATING

courtesy of takungpao.com

The two time TVB Best Actor Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung has not only been busy with advertisements and events, earlier he also participated in the film THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED. This film will be released on January 6. Cheung Jai said that everyone on the team was strong in the film industry. The film was Derek Chiu Sung Kei directed, Derek Yee Tung Sing produced and Louis Koo Tin Lok and Karen Mok Man Wai starred. With such a strong team, Cheung Jai of course would not decline.

However, only Cheung Jai knew his own pain on this production. In one scene he took a beating from a thug. In the chaos he really took hits on the head and in the belly. Finally he was bruised. He Said that he really wanted to scream from the pain of a few hits. Of course the pain
was real and not acted out. However the funniest part was after the shoot his face truly swelled up. Some workers thought it was make up effects and asked him why he did not remove his make up. He did not know whether to laugh or to cry. For the good of the film he did not mind.

TVB Anniversary Awards ended two nights ago, but fans of the fresh out of the oven Best Actor Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung, Best Actress Sheren Tang Shui Man, Raymond Lam Fung and Moses Chan Ho after the awards continued to wait for their idols outside Television City to celebrate. After the idols completed the TVB official publication interviews they celebrated with fans outside. Lam Fung had the most fans. December 8 was Lam Fung's birthday and fans presented many gifts. Lam Fung could not be happier. However, yesterday TVB received four complaints about Ah Fung winning My Favorite Male Character, five complaints that Charmaine Sheh Si Man should have won Best Actress and sixteen complaints that NO REGRETS should have won Best Drama. This year the show's average rating was 38 points and 2.42 million viewers, the highest rating was 43 points and 2.74 million viewers. The highest rated moment was when Sandra Ng Kwan Yu presented the award to Lai Yiu Cheung. ATV's Miss Asia Pageant received 3 point rating and 190,000 viewers.

When Lam Fung appeared, fans fired confetti cannons. They presented a cardboard "chock look number one" prize, red wine, a report card of the past year, birthday cake and a donation receipt. Fans even sang the birthday song. Lam Fung happily cut the cake and opened champagne to celebrate with fans. As for the donations, 128 fans each donated HK$128 for a HK$16,384 donation to Caring For Children Foundation.

As for his birthday wish, Lam Fung said that every year he not only wished for a smooth career but also more time to spend with his family. Thus this year he truly hoped after a busy few months he would be able to be with his family. In particular his grandmother was up there in age and he would like to spend more time with her. He has already asked the company for at least half a month off. Has Grandma urged him to wed and give her great grandchildren? Lam Fung said, "I hand this huge responsibility to my siblings. Who has time?" Lam Fung often asked his fans not to give him gifts and donate to charity instead. Thus every year his fans would not only donate to different charity organizations on his birthday but also on other days. They would show him the receipts, which comforted him a lot. He will not have time to celebrate on his actual birthday because he will be working on a wrap scene in Beijing, then he will rush to Shanghai to work the next day.

Cheung Jai and Man Nui had 20 fans waiting for them to celebrate. Cheung Jai's fans came from different places like Harbin, Malaysia and Nanjing. They not only opened champagne but also chanted for their idol. They also screamed "Victory!" Cheung Jai was very touched to see fans from different places and said that some fans thought the awards would take place on the 3rd and had to leave on the 4th. Cheung Jai made up for that three days ago with a meeting. Around 50 fans attended. Cheung Jai hoped to have a fan meeting every year whether he was nominated or not. Will he get a raise for winning Best Actor again? He honestly said that last year he had a raise and was already very satisfied. Since last year he thought his road has been very smooth so he was very satisfied. Man Nui and fans wore fan designed Gau Goo Leung cartoon character tee shirts. This year was Man Nui's 25th years in the business, fans also gave her a Gau Goo Leung oil painting and a 25th anniversary Best Actress award to Man Nui. In the past although Man Nui has been depressed she thought it was unimportant. As long as she worked hard she was fine.

Chan Ho also popped champagne with fans to celebrate. He said that this group of fans have followed him since 1994. He was proud of this group of fans because they were no ordinary fans. They would do volunteer work and repay the community. Has Bernice Liu Bik Yi texted to
congratulate him? He said that he has not checked his messages but believed that his friends would congratulate him.

The 2010 TVB ANNIVERSARY SHOW last night at Television City. Pre race favorites Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung and Sheren Tang Shui Man both with NO REGRETS (GUN GOK HIU HUNG ji YI HOI HO CHING) won this year's Best Actor and Best Actress. Fala Chen and Mak Cheung Ching also won Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor with the show. Although the entire NO REGRETS cast won awards, CAN'T BUY ME LOVE (GUNG JU GA DOH) defeated it for the Best Drama award. Louisa Lee Sze Kei won the Anniversary Performer Award.

Last night before the ceremony before, the event showed footage of the late Law Kwan Jor and Wong Tin Lam as a show of respect. Tang Shui Man and Cheung Jai both won the Best Lead Awards for the second time. When Man Nui was on stage, guest presenter Ti Lung actually forgot to present the award to her. Man Nui pointed out that she first had to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for giving her a lot of life experience in order to play a character well and to play a character with flesh and blood like Cheng Gau Mui. She also thanked Heaven for giving her the passion to act and some crazy specialties so she could be very in character with any character. She hoped that everyone would cherish peace and liked the love without physical contact in the series, persisted with this belief, peacefully held hand until old age and cherished those in front of them.

Man Nui and Cheung Jai both won again and they appeared happy. Cheung Jai felt that such an occasion was rare and believed this was historic. Yet he was truly somewhat disappointed that the show did not win Best Drama. He thought the group was more important than the individual awards because both the cast and the crew worked hard. Yet he was willing to accept defeat and could only keep working hard. Man Nui felt that not having the Best Drama award was unimportant because many in this series won. Overseas viewers would pay attention to the show. Would they sign with TVB now? Cheung Jai felt that contracts and awards had no connection. They were about market value. TVB this time was very sincere. Cheung Jai said that a second award had many factors and not just sincerity alone. Man Nui felt that her victory had nothing to do with deals. This year was the best proof. She felt it was fair and just. Next year this subject would be useless. Cheung Jai also said that next year perhaps they would both sign and not have any nomination. Yet they both stressed that no one has approached them about contracts.

Charmaine Sheh Si Man won My Favorite Television Female Character. She said that she would not be greedy and she was already very happy about the award. In addition whether she wanted to win and whether she would win were not proportional. Of course she would be a little disappointed from not winning but she would not be unhappy. Not everyone could win. Moses Chan Ho did not win either My Favorite Television Male Character Award or Best Actor but mysteriously won the Best Professional Performance Award. When he accepted it even he joked, "Actually I am not too professional. I am just joking, I don't know what to say because I am both happy and worried. Now the Leading Actor award is colder than water." However, Chan Ho was not disappointed and being able to go on stage was already great.

Always a favorite, Lam Fung won the tvb.com Popularity Award and My Favorite Television Male Character. When he won the Popularity Award, he honestly said that he forgot he was even nominated but was very happy that so many liked this character. After the series many called him by his character name on the streets, which proved its impression on the audience. Then he was My Favorite Television Male Character Award. Did Mona Fong Yat Wa's advice helped? He said that he never thought about it. Now he was very satisfied with two awards, which was more than expected. he said that last night he gave his concert DVD to Ms. Fong. Did he write any note? He joked that he did not have any. Was he afraid that the awards would bring more gossip? He said that since he joined the business he has heard different noise. Doing what he wanted to do was the most important.

Tong Sze Wing won the Most Improved Female Artist and broke down when she reached the stage. She wanted to give the award to her late mother and even pointed out that she only had a three minute attention span in whatever she did before except acting. She thanked her mother for always taking care of her. She said, "I know Mommy really, really loved me, just I don't know why I put that in my heart for over ten years without telling you. Mommy I truly love you very much. You don't have to worry about me. I have many good friends and dreams." Will she celebrate with Amigo Choi Kin Bong? She said, "I am not talking about that, I will celebrate with several friends at dinner."

Wong Ho Yin won the Most Improved Actor as the favorite. He said that after 13 years in the business and 3 and a half in TVB, this was his first award. He thanked his family and his wife to getting over the most difficult period with him. He even announced that his wife will bring him a new addition. Ho Yin said backstage he forgot to thank his mentor Johnnie To Kei Fung, who brought him in the business and taught him how to survive in this business. His boss Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heung Wa Keung taught him about attitude while Kent Cheng Juk Si taught him acting. Will he sign with TVB? He said that for now he would maintain the current condition because he still had a contract with China Star. He also said that the baby has already passed the "petty period" but refused to decline the expectant date and its sex. His wife was on hand as well. He joked that he was afraid that he would cry when he saw his wife.

Mak Cheung Ching won Best Support Actor and was teary eyed on the stage. He said that he did not deserve the award as behind it many have put in an effort for him. He thanked everyone for encouraging him at his low point. This was the first time he had performance to show others, today he has repaid everything. If he had to retire he would be OK. Jokingly he was asked was even "eating crap" was worth it? He joked that eating it for ten years would still be worth it. Fala Chen won Best Supporting Actress. She said that not everyone liked this character and she had negative response. She also pointed out that Man Nui comforted her and said that even if she did not win this time she hoped that she would keep working hard. Fala said tearfully, "This is a rare chance, to work hard for my dream. I am already very happy to have this chance." Will she celebrate with karaoke with her boyfriend? She said that she did not know and did not know what her boyfriend would give her. Will she be able to wed now? She said that she would only talk about work and the award.

Louisa Lee Sze Kei was asked whether she was the youngest to win the Anniversary Performer Award. She pointed out that this award was not a senior award. Everyone could change their views about this award. Last night she just wanted to attend the TVB birthday celebration and did not think about winning an award. Otherwise she would dress up more. Was she happier about this award than Best Actress? She said that all the reports before the Best Actress award would reduce the joy. Last night was very surprising and very exciting. Sister Sze Kei pointed out that she had a long history with TVB and thanked the company for always silently supporting her. She felt that she was luckier than many other artists as many of her series have had great responses.

[2010.12.06] CAROL CHENG HAS FUN WITH NOMINEES

Chung King Fai presented Best Supporting Actress. He used a pile of drama terms and made the Best Actor nominees cracked up with how to act "from outside to inside, then from inside to

outside again". King Sir also said that learning to act required paying attention to life details and not to be distracted with phone calls or text messages.

Host Carol Cheng Yui Ling often had fun at the expense of the male artists. She asked the nominated male artists whoever thought that they had no chance to rise their hands. All of them were confident and did not rise their hands. Dodo joked, "How sad, everyone can't get it up." Later Dodo also asked the five My Favorite Television Male Character nominees Moses Chan Ho, Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung, Kenneth Ma Kwok Ming, Steven Ma Chun Wai and Raymond Lam Fung to demonstrate "chock" look. She jokingly said to Lam Fung, "You should be very familiar with the 'chock' look." Lam Fung look embarrassed and immediately demonstrated the chock look. He said, "Sorry, chock my neck too much." Sister Do asked Lam Fung what advantage did he have to win the award. Lam Fung joked, "chock." Felix Wong Yat Wa earlier blasted TVB for overlooking and not promoting GUN METAL GREY (YING GAING). Although he and Michael Miu Kiu Wai both were nominated for Best Actor they did not attend. Their absence reportedly was a protest against TVB. TVB executive Chan Ka Yeung explained that Miu Kiu Wai had a scheduling conflict and Brother Wa said that whether he would attend depended on Miu Kiu Wai. Was they mad? He felt that they were not. Speaking of their absence despite of nominations, Chan Ka Yeung pointed out that it was an individual view and their views should not be twisted. He would respect their absence.

Sandra Ng Kwan presented the Best Actor award. Speaking of the absent Wong Yat Wa, she joked that she had to explain for Wong Yat Wa the "TVB is totally very bad" comment. Actually Brother Wa meant "Totally very best". Later she jokingly asked Lam Fung not to mind earlier Wong Ka Hei comment of overestimating his draw. "Let's find a movie to play a couple with me, I guarantee the next Lunar New Year film will have a part for you." When the result was announced, Kwan Yu even daringly said without looking at the result. "I have an idea, you can
guess it. TVB's stuff isn't too hard to guess, I don't have to look! Lau Sing it's you." Everyone immediately congratulated Cheung Jai. Kwan Yu laughed and said, "I haven't looked at it yet, why does everyone trust me so much?"

The 2010 TVB ANNIVERSARY AWARDS took place last night at Television City, everyone dressed up for the red carpet. Two Best Leading Actress favorites Sheren Tang Shui Man and Charmaine Sheh Si man both wore black. As for the sexiest, the always reserved Toby Leung Ching Kei showed off her figure in her own design.

Around 6PM, actors and actresses stepped on the red carpet. Each entered in five convertible BMWs. The event opened up the area for 400 "fans" to support their idols. Raymond Lam Fung had the most. Lai Yiu Cheung and Tang Shui Man were the most popular however. As soon as Man Nui appeared, fans immediately screamed "Gau Goo Leung".

As for male artists, the Best Actor favorites all dressed in black. However Cheung Jai wore a ceramic bow tie. Raymond Wong Ho Yin also wore a bow tie, which his wife made for him. Last year his wife also made him one but he did not win any award. This year his wife added two
glittering gems in hopes of him winning an award. Raymond Lam Fung arrived as soon as he left the plane. Did he attend because he knew he had an award? He said that he did not because he did not attend the anniversary show. He only confirmed his attendance several weeks ago.
