Lee Lik Chi, Clement Cheng Si Kit and others yesterday were guest presenters at the 5th Hong Kong Mobile Film production contest. Lee Lik Chi said that young people nowadays love to shoot with mobile phones.  Like the earlier Taiwan film YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE that was a breath of fresh air to everyone's eyes and ears, everyone can try to work with more new comers.  Ultimately now it is the high definition era, everyone like to watch the younger generation in performance.  Lee Lik Chi also hoped that the future chief executive will be able to put more effort into Hong Kong domestic films.

As for his choice for Chief Executive, Lee Lik Chi joked, "Now the Chief Executive not only has to be smart, everyone are seemingly concerned with honesty.  Thus you are better off not making any mistake normally.  You don't know when you will run for the Chief Executive.  You don't know about all the bad things that you've done before."  Then he said that ultimately people should not make mistakes.  Speaking of
director James Yuen Sai Sun earlier having his screenplay hijacked by a Mainland company, Lee Lik Chi revealed that in the Mainland that was the norm.  Once he attended a production start ceremony as a guest, when the series was aired in Guangxi he suddenly became the series producer.  Actually everyone are only doing their jobs, he hoped to stop similar plots from occurring again.  Lee Lik Chi said, "I know in Hong Kong and the U.S. you can get copyright for a screenplay, but it's a little harder in the Mainland.  I often would give a photocopy to the other party.  Even email has certain risks.  Take care at every turn."  Lee Lik Chi said that he was not certain about Yuen Sai Sun's situation and asked reporters to ask him instead.

The Clement Cheng Si Kit directed MERRY GO ROUND (DUNG FUNG POR)'s leads Teddy Robin Kwan and Ella Koon Yun Na winning the Golden Koala International Chinese Film Festival Best Actor and Best Actress.  Cheng Si Kit looked forward to when everyone would have time to celebrate.  He was very happy as well as he praised the winners as great actors.  He hoped to have a chance to work with them again.

Film professional Teddy Robin Kwan two nights ago attended the opening ceremony of his 30 year film exhibition TEDDY ROBIN PANORAMA.  Artists who have worked with him in movies including Cheung Kwok Keung, Kam Hing Yin, Teddy's proteges Derek Kwok Chi Kin and Clement Cheng Si Kit came in support.  Teddy had a female fan who brought his videos over the years, which deeply touched him.  Teddy joked, "I have kept some videos, but friends have taken many away."  Teddy said that he has never seen such a complete collection.  He also said, "I have been in the film industry for 30 years, but more than 30 years in music."

When asked about Teddy's favorite work, he joked, "My favorite movie hasn't been made yet, but so far in my film career my favorite is COPS AND ROBBERS (DIM JI BING BING)."  Teddy said that was his film as a producer, but as a director his favorite was ALL THE WRONG SPIES (NGOR OI YEH LOI HEUNG).  Producing over 20 films over the years, Teddy said that he starred in many as well.  Would he remake any of his past classic films?  He answered with certainty, "No!  I don't want to repeat myself!"  He said that he had a fear of making comedy nowadays, instead he would like to make some human and touching films.  Would he make more movies?  He said, "I am still very stubborn, even though as an actor I have more opportunities to make movies.  I have turned down many movies because I wouldn't make anything that wouldn't be suitable."  Teddy said that currently he had two stories in mind and he would have a part.  What type of characters would he play?  He said, "I like both stories very much, I play seniors in both.  This way is more relaxing."

Teddy Robin Kwan earlier with MERRY GO ROUND won the Best Actor award at the Golden Koala Chinese Film Festival in Sydney Australia.  Ella Koon Yun Na also won Best Actress with the film.  MERRY GO ROUND director Clement Cheng Si Kit two nights ago welcomed him at the airport and presented flowers to wish him well.

Teddy Robin two nights ago with Susan Shaw Yam Yam flew from Australia to Guangdong then to Hong Kong.  This time Teddy defeated LET THE BULLETS FLY's Chow Yun Fat and Ge You, which he admitted was quite surprising.  Because he was nominated with both GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) and MERRY GO ROUND, at first he thought he won with GALLANTS.  Teddy Robin pointed out that MERRY was about charity organization Tung Wah hospitals' history.  He was very happy to win with this film.  How would he celebrate?  Teddy said that the airline did not have a direct flight back to Hong Kong.  They had to transfer in Guangzhou and finally waited 15 minutes before departure.  Now he would not go home and rest the most.

Yesterday Teddy appeared on a radio interview, Best Actress Koon Yun Na called the station as well.  Ella said that due to a television series she could not accept the award in person, which she regretted.  She saw photos of Teddy with the award and wanted to touch the award soon.  She thanked the cast and the crew, everyone had a lot of fun working together.  Of course most importantly she had to thank Teddy.  In the film they had many scenes together and she thanked him for his guidance.  Later she would like to celebrate with everyone when she would have the chance.  Teddy praised Ella's performance as very natural, her eyes knew how to act.  He even revealed that he has seen Ella's boyfriend and they even jammed together.

[2011.04.24] GALLANTS NEGOTIATES ITS SECOND RELEASE

courtesy of takungpao.com

The film GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) just won four awards at the 30th Hong Kong Film Award, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Music. Immediately it led to an enormous response in the Mainland. Earlier the film's producer Lam Ka Tung led the directors Derek Kwok Chi Kin and Clement Cheng Si Kit, and actors Teddy Robin Kwan, Susan Shaw Yam Yam and Leung Siu Lung to promote in Shenzhen. According to Ka Tung, their Shenzhen visit was very well received. Many Mainland fans performed madly. They have already completely digested the film. Thus when Teddy Robin and Shaw Yam Yam appeared, fans were calling them by their character names. They even memorized the lines from the film, the response was surprisingly good. Thus they are in negotiation to release the film again in the Mainland and Hong Kong within the month to follow the Hong Kong Film Award momentum. Ka Tung said, "We never thought that the second release would have great box office, we just want to express our sincerity." In addition, the film will also release a box set of memorabilia and figures to assist with the promotion.

[2011.04.16] TSUI HARK HAS A GOOD CHANCE TO WIN BEST DIRECTOR

courtesy of singtao.com

With the 30th Hong Kong Film Award a day away, nominees have been busy with preparation to attend the event. Entering the final countdown, today we look at the Best Director nominees: GALLANTS (DAI LUI TOI)'s Derek Kwok Chi Kin and Clement Cheng Si Kit, DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK)'s Tsui Hark, IP MAN 2's Wilson Yip Wai Shun, REIGN OF ASSASSINS (GIM YU)'s Su Chao-Bin and STOOL PIGEON (SIN YUN)'s Dante Lam Chiu Yin.

Directors who are nominated for Best Director are of certain quality. They need to lead actors, cast and crew in the production, with a little less ability they would have difficulty completing the film.

The most experienced has to be Director Tsui Hark. His films often feel fresh to people. Previous Hong Kong Film Award Best Director winner he is nominated this time with DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK). The scenery in the film is memorable. Would he win Best Director again?

As for the 28th Hong Kong Film Award New Director Kwok Chi Kin, he is nominated with Cheng Si Kit with GALLANTS. GALLANTS earlier at the 17th Hong Kong Film Critic Society Award won Best Actor for Teddy Robin Kwan. Would Kwok Chi Kin and Cheng Si Kit win Best Director at the Hong Kong Film Award? They indeed have "dark horse" potential.

The 20th and 28th Hong Kong Film Award Best Director nominee with JULIET IN LOVE (JU LAI YIP YU LEUNG SAN BAK) and IP MAN, Yip Wai Shun this time is nominated again with IP MAN 2. With an all new direction he makes the film sequel, the continuous and exciting action scenes leave people with a deep impression. His potential is raised higher.

Nominated with the film STOOL PIGEON (SIN YUN), Lam Chiu Yin's film BEAST STALKER (JING YUN) at the 28th Hong Kong Film Award successfully made Nick Cheung Ka Fai a seven time Best Actor and Liu Kai Chi the Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actor. This time with the original team he made STOOL, which might win Lam Chiu Yin the Best Director award.

Su Chao-Bin's REIGN OF ASSASSINS earlier at the 17th Hong Kong Film Critic Society won Best Director. With one award in hand he should not be overlooked.
