Michael Hui Koon Man two nights ago performed a charity stand up comedy show.  Friends Nadia Chan Chung Ling, Vivien Leung Siu Bing and others attended.  During the opening, Michael's grandsons presented flowers.  As soon as he opened his mouth he talked about many political figures, including Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam Kuen, Henry Tang Ying Nin, Dr. York Chow Yuat Ngok and others.  The crowd roared in laughter and applause.

Speaking of how the sexes get along, Michael felt that men should know how to act.  He should play a good man in front of his girlfriend or wife.  He joked that thus past Hong Kong Film Award Best Actors have never divorced like Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Lau Ching Wan.  When viewers reminded him that Chow Yun Fat had a divorce with Candy Yu On On, he said, "Before the divorce he was box office poison, after winning the Best Actor award he didn't have another divorce!  Right?"  Speaking of Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Michael could not help but lament, "The newspaper said they are reuniting, the divorce alone went on for two years.  Why?  Because Ting Fung isn't just a Best Actor, next to him is a Best Actress.  I also wish they would be able to get back together like the way it was!"  Although Michael was telling joke after joke, as soon as he mentioned his late brother Ricky Hui Koon Ying he choked up.  "Speaking of absurdity on the plane, sigh, I am very heartbroken.  I am reminding of my brother Ah Ying.  He was the less willing to take a plane, every time he did he had to take a sedative!"

Michael admitted that he has not performed in a long time.  He was so excited that his voice was a little hoarse.  Originally he planned to invite his brother Hui Koon Ying to be his guest, but unfortunately it did not pan out.  He said, "Originally I had some stories about him, but I don't dare to tell them.  I am very afraid that even I wouldn't be able to laugh.  Tonight's audience response was great, too bad my brother couldn't attend."  He admitted that even Sam Hui Koon Kit had the same feeling and was not used to Hui Koon Ying's passing, so he would agree to perform at the Hong Kong Coliseum.  With the busy performance schedule in recent years, Michael said that he would properly rest or perhaps consider film planning.

courtesy of takungpao.com

Teddy Robin Kwan earlier with MERRY GO ROUND won the Best Actor award at the Golden Koala Chinese Film Festival in Sydney Australia.  Ella Koon Yun Na also won Best Actress with the film.  MERRY GO ROUND director Clement Cheng Si Kit two nights ago welcomed him at the airport and presented flowers to wish him well.

Teddy Robin two nights ago with Susan Shaw Yam Yam flew from Australia to Guangdong then to Hong Kong.  This time Teddy defeated LET THE BULLETS FLY's Chow Yun Fat and Ge You, which he admitted was quite surprising.  Because he was nominated with both GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) and MERRY GO ROUND, at first he thought he won with GALLANTS.  Teddy Robin pointed out that MERRY was about charity organization Tung Wah hospitals' history.  He was very happy to win with this film.  How would he celebrate?  Teddy said that the airline did not have a direct flight back to Hong Kong.  They had to transfer in Guangzhou and finally waited 15 minutes before departure.  Now he would not go home and rest the most.

Yesterday Teddy appeared on a radio interview, Best Actress Koon Yun Na called the station as well.  Ella said that due to a television series she could not accept the award in person, which she regretted.  She saw photos of Teddy with the award and wanted to touch the award soon.  She thanked the cast and the crew, everyone had a lot of fun working together.  Of course most importantly she had to thank Teddy.  In the film they had many scenes together and she thanked him for his guidance.  Later she would like to celebrate with everyone when she would have the chance.  Teddy praised Ella's performance as very natural, her eyes knew how to act.  He even revealed that he has seen Ella's boyfriend and they even jammed together.

[2011.11.09] HIROSHI TAMAKI WORKS HARD ON CHINESE

courtesy of takungpao.com

The giant costume film BRONZE SPARROW TERRACE yesterday held a press conference in Beijing.  Stars Chow Yun Fat, Hiroshi Tamaki, Alec Su (So Yau Peung), Liu Yifei and others appearance.  Chow Yun Fat's trademark smile remained unchanged.  He even lent a hand to Liu Yifei on and off stage in a gentlemanly display.

In the film Chow Yun Fat played Cao Cao.  He said that he chose BRONZE SPARROW TERRACE because the story was story.  Fat Gor who did not consider the salary joked that his salary was low.  "I only have enough for two meals a day."  Playing the Emperor Xian of Han, So Yau Peng "lamented" about having more officials than concubines in the film.  In addition, Japanese star Hiroshi Tamaki played Mu Shun, Yao Lu played the Imperial doctor, Ni Dahong played Fu Wan.

Director Zhao Linshan said, "Although this film has not restructured history, it has had a new understanding of the character of Cao Cao."  In his heart, Cao Cao is a character who has a passion for the battlefield but also an elegance of romance.

So Yau Peng played Emperor Xian of Han, a character that had just as much tragic color.  So Yau Peng said, Emperor Xian of Han might have been an emperor under Cao Cao's control, but as the royal Eastern Han's descendant he was unwilling to see his kingdom fall under his watch.  Reportedly, early in the preparation stage So Yau Peng often blew up the director's phone.  As soon as they started chatting it would take several hours, the content of which was all about the Emperor Xian of Han's character.  So Yau Peng joked, "After playing this character, I can be enthroned myself."

Hiroshi Tamaki played Mu Shun and at the same time was the actor with the least time to sleep on the team.  Not fluent in Putonghua he received a team assigned interpreter to personally teach him his lines.  In order to bring live to the character, he worked extra hard.  Hiroshi Tamaki everyday only slept for a few hours and repeatedly digested and understood the script that was translated in Japanese, which also became a daily routine for Hiroshi Tamaki.  The most pleasing part is Hiroshi Tamaki so far still has not made any mistake.  At the press conference, So Yau Peng with his Japanese background offered to be the temporary translator and even joked with the host.

[2011.06.23] 68 YEAR OLD JIMMY WANG FORCES DONNIE YEN'S HANDS

courtesy of on.cc

courtesy of takungpao.com

In Peter Chan Ho Sun's film WU XIA, the sect leader role did not have much screen time but was an important character. He once wanted Chow Yun Fat but he knew that Chow Yun Fat might not take it. However at the time he could not remove Chow Yun Fat's face from his mind until art director Yee Chung Man mentioned Jimmy Wang Yu. Because Big Brother Wang thought this character was good, he lowered his salary and said that one dollar was enough.

Wang Yu revealed that the first day of work originally was not so smooth, after communicating with the director he realized that Donnie Yen Chi Tan was taking care of him. He said, "On my first day I saw my double and I was very angry inside, treating me like an old man. Although I am already 68, every morning I would run for 40 minutes, lift weights for 100 repetitions and do 100 push ups. At the time I went over to Chan Ho Sun and said, I wouldn't use a double, let me fight, even wire work would not be a problem for me. Yet Chan Ho Sun told me, Yen Chi Tan was not the most afraid of me unable to complete the action but of not daring to strike me. He hoped that I would forgive him. Later in one scene he needed to strike at me, I directly went to him and viciously upset him. If he was not vicious, then I was. Later I upset him so he began to
fight."

[2011.06.22] LIU YE HAS PRESSURE FROM PLAYING MAO ZEDONG

courtesy of takungpao.com

With 178 actors from three lands on both sides of the strait, the Huang Jianxin and Han Sanping directed film BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL will open in Hong Kong tomorrow. To assist with the promotion, Huang Jianxin earlier was interviewed with several actors Liu Ye, Feng Yuanzheng, Li Qin and Li Chen.

Working with over 100 actors this time, Huang Jianxin with many big productions and years of producer experience honestly said that the most difficult was actor scheduling issues. However he was not baffled and instead after its completion felt a great sense of achievement. Playing Yuan Shikai, Chow Yun Fat earlier joked that he had to complain about Zhao Benshan impersonating him while he was acting; Huang Jianxin said that their exchanges cracked up everyone on the set and praised Fat Gor's professionalism. Fat Gor in order to prevent his Cantonese accent affecting his performance asked the director two months the production to get a professional to record his lines for him to practice with in Hong Kong. Thus during the shoot he had no obstacle at all. The director also pointed out that the film story took place between 1911 and 1921, but now most of the buildings in Shanghais were from the 30s. The team had to build the Beijing brothel and university library in Huairou.

Liu Ye and Li Qin in the film played young Mao Zedong and his wife Yang Kaihui; Li qin said that before working together she thought Liu Ye was beyond her reach, but on the first day of the shoot Liu Ye in order to adjust to her height took a seated position while acting. Thus she thought he was very nice. Liu Ye also praised in Cantonese her performance. As for playing Mao Zedong, he said that he had certain pressure because Mao Zedong was an important figure in Chinese history and very influential around the world. However each person's understanding of Mao Zedong was different. He performed his own way so he definitely had pressure. How did he relax himself? He said, after the shoot he took two months off and he was freed. Speaking of the film's online availability, Liu Ye said that it was outrageous because the film box office would suffer a lot. Playing his first love, Tang Wei had three scenes but was completely cut out. Did he feel any regret? He said, the film had 178 actors so a balance was very hard to find. Thus 17 people's roles were cut. The film also went from the original four hours to more than 2 hours.

Feng Yuanzheng in the film played the "May 4" Movement founder Chen Duxiu, he caught the directors' eyes with the shape of his head and his elegant quality. In the film he and Liu Ye had the most scenes together. He even had several minutes of screaming and yelling, but he did not feel any difficulty. Instead he felt very lucky because he was able to work with so many great actors. As for the 17 actors on the cutting room floor, Feng Yuanzheng honestly said that at first he was worried about being cut.

The film had over 100 actors and resembled a film award. Li Chen said that meal times felt like that the most. Speaking of memories from the production, he and Feng Yuanzheng both said that the most memorable was birthday celebrations during the shoot. Feng Yuanzheng also mentioned something funny about Fat Gor. When the team was shooting in Hengdian, Zhejiang, it ran into the snowstorm of several decades. The highway was jammed. Fat Gor told the police, "I am Chow Yun Fat, I am in a hurry to make a movie." The police told Fat Gor, "Even if you are Chow Yun Fat there isn't anything we can do." In addition, he also mentioned that he admired Tony Leung Ka Fai very much when he was little, thus he was very
excited about the chance to work with him this time.

With almost 200 actors from three lands on both sides of the strait, BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL yesterday held its Hong Kong premiere and invited Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong S.A.R. deputy director Li Gang and Secretary for the Home Affairs Henry Tang Ying Yen to host the gong ceremony. The cast included Chow Yun Fat, Feng Yuanzheng, Liu Ye, Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Angelababy, Li Qin, Michelle Ye (Yip Shuen), Myolie Wu Hung Yi, and directors Han Sanping and Huang Jianxin.

Fat Gor and Fat Soh attended but Fat Gor was much thinner. Liu Ye said that with Fat Gor on hand at the premiere his pressure was not as great. Fat Gor joked, "No way! I am just a supporting character, he is the real lead." Liu Ye hoped to switch characters with Fat Gor, Fat Gor said that he could not play Mao Zedong because he did not look like Mao Zedong. Last night was the first time Fat Gor saw the film, he said that he had a lot of fun on the production because he was able to work with so many good actors. Liu Ye two nights ago went to a seafood feast, Fat Gor said that he did not know and did not know that he like which kind of seafood. Reporters said that Liu Ye liked razor clams, Fat Gor said that Beijing had razor clams too! In the film Fat Gor worked with Andy Lau Tak Wa. Fat Gor pointed out that Wa Jai was young and handsome, only that he was too thin. Did Fat Gor regret not having any scene with Liu Ye? Fat Gor said no because they have worked with each other before.

Lately artists were often caught with hidden camera shots. Fat Gor said, "It truly is a little excessive, can they take it but not publish it! (Were you afraid of being caught?) Yes, (Did you close your curtains?) If I would be caught it would be very horrifying because I am gross, but I would have clothes on. (Not in the bathroom?) My bathroom is very hidden and uses frosted glass. In addition I wouldn't go to the balcony." Speaking of Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi, Fat Gor said, "No problem anymore! (But Pak Chi brought her sons to Canada?) So severe, is she applying for a school for them! (Rumor is she is keeping the children as her wager?) Wow, no way, they are the stars of the future, why would she keep them hidden."

Hung Yi yesterday dressed provocatively, "You just don't see me like this too foten. (Do you dress like this normally?) No, I am usually very casual, tonight is out of respect for the event. (Did you go downstairs for Bosco Wong Chung Chak to take a look?) No, today I was in a hurry. (Then you don't need to ask him?) Nothing like that." In the film Hung Yi played one of Yuan Shikai's wives, but she only appeared for a second and had no line. She thought this was a good experience though. Hung Yi felt very special to be able to work with international superstar Fat Gor. Fat Gor also had a connection with TVB and once asked the director not to cut Hung Yi's scene. Hung Yi said, "Actually I just know my role was very small, it's fine (even if it was cut), but Fat Gor truly is very nice!"

Huang Xiaoming recently won a Chinese Media award, his girlfriend Angelababy naturally congratulated him and said that she would be happy for any friend who won an award. Speaking of Huang Xiaoming silently admitting that she was his girlfriend, she asked "Really?" Why was she unwilling to admit the relationship? She hoped everyone's focus would be on her work and not be asked about her love life every time. Reporters asked her to be generous once, she only said, "Let's talk about work! (Aren't you afraid of being accused of lying?) I am not lying, I am just not answering. (Then are you admitting with silence?) No comment."

Cheung Ka Fai slimmed down a lot as well. Two nights ago he went to have seafood with Liu Ye and others. He said that he was just welcoming guests. Because seafood was not greasy, he feasted. He also revealed that a Mainland film company asked him to play a historical figure, but because he did not know much about the character he turned it down. He hoped to learn more before playing and believed that he will keep having chances in the future.

[2011.06.10] ZHAO BENSHAN TESTS CHOW YUN FAT'S TOLERANCE

courtesy of singtao.com

With almost 200 actors from three lands on both sides of the straits, the Emperor Motion Picture BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL two nights ago held its premiere at the Beijing Olympic Center. Actors Chow Yun Fat, Liu Ye, Fan Bingbing and others dressed up for the occasion. Over ten actors were cut from the film, among them Tang Wei's cut caught the most attention. Director Huang Jianxin honestly said that right now there were too many rumors and he did not want to explain. Ultimately the scenes were cut mainly in consideration of the film's completeness, the audience's viewing requirements and habits.

Fat Gor brought Fat Soh Jasmine Tan to Beijing to attend the premiere. Also in attendances were Liu Ye, Fan Bingbing, John Woo (Ng Yu Sum), Michelle Ye (Yip Shuen) and others. Fat Gor played Yuan Shikai in the film and had many scenes with Zhao Benshan who played Duan Qirui and Feng Gong who played Feng Guozhang. He said on the set he constantly had to hold back laughter in front of Zhao Benshan and Feng Gong because when their backs faced the cameras they would try to make him laugh. This experience also his most memorable from the shoot.

Due to all the stars, some inevitably were cut from the film. According to director Huang Jianxin, over ten actors' scenes were cut. Many were top actors but he did not want to reveal who. Currently the media only knew Tang Wei was one of them. Huang Jianxin stated, "Tang Wei played Tao Yi whose role originally was not much. For some reason, there have been too many rumors. I don't want to explain them right now. Ultimately when the cuts were made, the primary consideration was the film's completeness and the audience's demand and habit. I express my deepest apologies to actors whose scenes were cut."

Reportedly due to BEGINNING's June release, TRANSFORMERS DARK OF THE MOON had to postpone its release to the end of July. Huang Jianxin said that BEGINNING's release date was set in December and had nothing to do with import film schedules.

Fan Bingbing said that she felt a lot of pressure from working with so many experienced actors. When asked whether Ng Yu Sum's scene remained, director Han Sanping stated, "It's still there." Liu Ye at a Shanghai press conference yesterday revealed that in order to bring the
character to life, he had late night snacks to gain 10 pounds and joked that salary was at a daily rate. Since his role was more important, he should make more than co-star Fat Gor.

With almost 200 actors from three lands on both sides of the strait, BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL yesterday held a premiere press conference and ceremony in Beijing. Directors Han Sanping and Huang Jianxin led actors Chow Yun Fat, Zhao Benshan, Liu Ye, Feng Yuanzheng, Li Qin, Dong Jie, Li Chen, He Ping, Zhou Jie, Nie Yuan, Fan Bingbing, Ye Xuan, Liu Tao and others in an appearance.

Han Sanping and Huang Jianxin even talked about the actors' performances in the film. Han Sanping said, "This time we invited 178 actors. Despite most appeared in special performances or cameos, some even had to take time off from their original productions, now the film is finally completed after a year. I hope to thank all actors through today." Huang Jianxin even "exposed" Fat Gor, "Before this press conference something very surprising to me happened. Before we communicated with the actors the situation of attending the press conference, Chow Yun Fat took the initiative to ask us about it. Something so minor touched all of us particular. With their great support, I believe BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL will definitely become a new milestone for national films."

As for Chow Yun Fat and Zhao Benshan the two "Beiyang Warlords" made their first appearance. When Chow Yun Fat received the role of Yuan Shikai, Huang Jianxin asked him specifically to "have to perform a different feel". Fat Gor said, "At the time Director Huang Jianxin chatted with me specifically, saying that I must not bring shades of Huang Silang (his LET THE BULLETS FLY character) to Yuan Shikai. In addition I couldn't play Yuan Shikai as an absolute villain. Thus we studied for a long time about this character. For all of my scenes, Director Han would watch on the set. So I could sense how important this character was to him."

However, Fat Gor did not forget to "complain". "In order to play this character, before the shoot I didn't eat everyday. I relied on water to replenish my energy." He revealed, "I feel this time Director Han had a grudge with me, all the subordinates he arranged for me had problems. Zhao Benshan, Feng Gong, Fan Wei were joking around on the set everyday, no wonder when I was the President the country would be such a mess!" Fat Gor also joked, "In the film I had eight wives, in the end I didn't even see one." Fat Gor's "complaints" left Han Sanping scrambling to explain, "Actually you had 'scenes' with them, but in that scene your Yuan Shikai passed away so you didn't see them."

Playing Duan Qirui, Zhao Benshan said, "This time I had many scenes with Fat Gor, from him I could sense his serious confidence on this character. Our collaboration was very pleasant. On the set we also often made fun of him." Playing Mao Zedong, Liu Ye expressed deep regret about unable to work with Fat Gor. "Fat Gor and I have worked together before, but I always had the feeling of not having enough. So this time I very much regretted not having any scene with Fat Gor."

As for the box office, Han Sanping confidently said, "BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL is better than FOUNDING OF A REPUBLIC." Huang Jianxin said, "I believe BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL's box office will definitely excessive FOUNDING OF A REPUBLIC's." After the shoot wrap, two directors went their separate ways. This press conference was the two directors' first meeting in half a year. Han Sanping also said, "Currently the U.S., Canada, Australia, and several dozen nations overseas rights have been signed. The film's international version was already completed. Actually recently we have been very happy and thanked all of
BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL hard working people."

[2011.06.08] CHOW YUN FAT WALKS TO THE BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL SET IN THE SNOW

Ray Lui Leung Wai due to BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL has a chance to meet with Chow Yun Fat

The director praises Chow Yun Fat as easy going and professional

Over 100 famous actors from three lands on both sides of the straits participated in BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL. Some actors only had cameos but they never minded. They did not care about salary either, which director Huang Jianxin could not be more thankful for. He even gave special praise to Chow Yun Fat who played Yuan Shikai as easy going and professional. Actually when the team shot in Hengdian, it ran into a rare snowstorm in several decades as everyone was trapped on the road to Hengdian.

Fat Gor, Zhao Benshan and others in order not to hinder progress were willing to get off their vehicles and walk to the set in the storm. Their professionalism touched the team very much. Fat Gor said, "That day on the road to Hengdian, Fat Soh also came along. However due to the poor weather she fell ill. Completely due to the team's care and sending her warm congee, I was able to complete the day's shoot in peace." During the shoot, Fat Gor experienced the pain of the workers and even paid for a barbecue stall to migrate to the set. Actually this was Fat Gor's tradition, basically for every movie he would treat workers to lamb on a stick because lamb was the able to replenish energy. In one day he prepared over 3500 sticks, enough to fill the entire team's bellies. Three masters who grilled the lamb on a stick have "collaborated" with Fat Gor many times already. For this major client they prepared an entire day.

Fat Gor also said that although the production was very intense it was very memorable. He and Zhao Benshan who played Duan Qirui became good friends. Fat Gor praised, "He is also a white hot, experienced good actor. We often studied the script on the set and saw how we could perform the scene to its best." The mischievous Zhao Benshan loved to go to the set during the break, watched Fat Gor at work while imitating his gestures. Fat Gor did not mind at all and even joked with Zhao Benshan, "If you keep imitating me and make the team laugh, I will during the shoot cover up your face." In addition, during the shoot, Fat Gor also ran into his good co-star of years ago Ray Lui Leung Wai. Ah Lui said, "Coincidentally I also was forced to stay in Hengdian due to the snow, since Fat Gor came on a rare occasion, I of course had to have a short meeting with THE BUND's co-star 'Hui Man Keung'!"
