[2012.02.08] SHU QI FEELS CHARACTER TORTURE IS FUN

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Gordon Chan Ka Seung produced, Carol Lai Miu Shuet directed, Shu Qi and Shawn Yue Man Lok starred romantic thriller THE SECOND WOMAN (CHING MAI) will be released on March 8.  Shu Qi in the film played two characters, a pair of twins who both fell for Yue Man Lok and into a immoral love triangle.  Shu Qi in the film was vicious, gentle and sexy all in one.  Earlier she admitted that making THE SECOND WOMAN absolutely was not easy, for a period she could not pull herself out.

Shu Qi earlier posted a "shedding tear" photo online.  She thought that eyes that were swollen from crying looked great.  She said, "Eye drops can be used in crying scenes!  Yet it has no way to reach the condition of red eyes and nose, so I still cry on my own."  In the film she played twin sisters who both fell for Yue Man Lok's stage actor.  She admitted that both characters tragically tortured her, as the older sister's voice and tone would come out suddenly through the younger sister.  She could only discuss with the director to first finish one before shooting the other.  Otherwise she could not perform.

Shu Qi is a Golden Horse Award winning Best Actress and made many outstanding films.  She pointed out that now good characters are fun characters.  She would not deliberately think of any hardship or challenge for herself.  Instead she wanted to play, so her movies did not have to be high technical.

[2011.12.29] PLAYING TWINS DRAINS SHU QI

The Gordon Chan Ka Seung produced, Carol Lai Miu Shuet directed suspense thriller CHING MAI (LOVE MYSTERY) due to its sensitive subject has been kept confidential without any promotion since its production began.  Yesterday its release company finally revealed that the film has already passed the film bureau content inspection and would be prepared for a March 2012 nationwide release.

CHING MAI is about Shu Qi who played twin sisters Wai Heung and Wai Bo's relationships with the Shawn Yue Man Lok played stage actor Fong Yik Nan.  The sisters turned against each other and wanted to end their  relationship.  The biggest challenge of CHING MAI was Shu Qi having to play two different characters.  Although before the production she was mentally prepared, during the shoot the sister roles were repeatedly exchanged and Shu Qi became neurotic due to the excessive burden of adjustment, in order to interpret the sisters' detailed expressions and different personalities thoroughly.  Over the almost three month long shoot, Shu Qi had to juggle and also drove herself mad, the crew was scared of her and dared not easily contact Shu Qi who usually would be very friendly.  After the shoot, Shu Qi said that CHING MAI has exhausted her physically and mentally.  She needed to rest for a long to be able to recover.

Due to the sensitive subject, daring sex scenes were definite.  CHING MAI ran into numerous obstacles, from screenplay inspection it received several adjustment requests from the film bureau.  The film challenged the moral bottom line under the temptation of love and lust.  Chan Ka Seung lamented, "CHING MAI's story rose and fell, unusual human nature in this relationship appeared.  Shu Qi with this film's breakthrough performance would hopefully win another Best Actress award."

The Gordon Chan Ka Seung directed film MURAL (WAT BIK) two nights ago held a premiere.  Actors Deng Chao and Liu Yan attended.  Liu Yan dressed up for the occasion, which she said was to coordinate with the fairy character in the film.  Because she has been caught multiple times in the Mainland with wardrobe malfunction photos, she honestly said that she has taken all the safety precaution.  She said, "I have already changed on the dress repeatedly and also applied tapes.  I don't have any problem at all."

Liu Yan said that MURAL was a focus film so she paid more attention to what she wore.  She said, "I could be sexier, as long as it wouldn't be too exaggerated it would be fine.  (Did you have any passion scene in the film?)  It looked like I did but actually I didn't at all, I just had one bed scene and sheets covered my body."

Earlier Chan Ka Seung was rumored to rush through MURAL to make the PAINTED SKIN sequel.  Two nights ago he denied that new film was made for the sake of making it.  "Some people said that, but what isn't isn't.  I wouldn't be upset over one comment, making movies is different from meals.  MURAL took a year and half to prepare."  As for accusations that the new film was defamation against women, he defended it and said, "Some also said that it was feminist so to each its own.  I absolutely have no intention on defamation against women."  He also admitted that he was not used to the culture of Mainland fans trading insults.  Although no one would benefit, it was better than no noise at all.

The Gordon Chan Ka Seung directed MURAL (WAT PEI) will open nationwide on the National Day and on the 13th in Hong Kong.  Chan Ka Seung led actors Deng Chao, Yan Ni, Monica Mok Siu Kei yesterday to promote in Guangzhou.  Chan Ka Seung talked about the MURAL's human fairy love.

Chan Ka Seung said, "I put life all into MURAL, MURAL can be seen as PAINTED SKIN (WAT PEI)'s sister chapter.  PAINTED SKIN is a story that observes what happens to a family.  MURAL opens a door to another world.  I put life all into this film."  Deng Chao said, "In MURAL all the women are injured because of me.  Lead actress Sun Li due to her pregnancy would be absent from all promotions.  Sun Li's health condition is very decent now, only her body is getting 'heavier and heavier'."  In a film full of beauties, Deng Chao honestly said that he was afraid of his wife's jealousy.  During the shoot his wife was happier than him.  Yan Ni admitted that the ban on love was rather cruel, thus she said at the university where the press conference was held, "If I was the principal I definitely would let students date.  I feel in the university the most important thing is being able to date!"

Eric Tsang Chi Wai yesterday attended a golf open tournament with Vivian Lai Shui Yan, Lawrence Yan Chi Keung, Paul Chun Pui and Albert Au Shui Keung.

After Max Mok Siu Chung's drug arrest news, Chi Wai has not been able to contact him. Reportedly Suen Hing was one of the suspects as well, Chi Wai thought that business meetings at night clubs were very hard to say. Accidental ingestion would not be surprising. He hoped that he would be released soon. Chi Wai said that Mok Siu Chung not only did a lot of charity work but also loved to run. Thus he believed deeply that he was a healthy person. As for the Hong Kong Film Award, Chi Wai honestly said that his picks have always been Carina Lau Ka Ling and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung. Thus backstage he also encouraged Ting Fung. He said, "I congratulated Ting Fung to win, if he did not he would sooner or later. Ka Ling's victory was the most perfect, I believe her next goal is to have a child."

Chi Wai also attended the GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) celebration and rarely he left without being drunk. Would he have a chance to work new director Derek Kwok Chi Kin? He said, "His next goal should be winning his own director award. This time he had to admit defeat to Tsui Hark. I am confident that he will very quickly win an award again. I will wait until he finishes CHINESE ODYSSEY before discussing collaboration opportunities." As for the Hong Kong Film Award chair Gordon Chan Ka Seung will soon complete his term, would Chi Wai consider taking over? He said, "Gordon belongs to the Director Guild, I belong to the Performing Artist Guild, each organization would nominate a candidate. My term comes to an end this year too. Actually Gordon has done great and kept close contact with the government."

[2011.04.17] GORDON CHAN SLAMS SENIORITY TALK

courtesy of on.cc

On the eve of the Hong Kong Film Award, gossips are the norm. Yesterday some voter questioned Carina Lau Ka Ling's screen time in DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK), she would win only due to seniority. The Hong Kong Film Award chair Gordon Chan Ka Seung supported Ka Ling. "The Hong Kong Film Award has been around for so many years, all along it has had a complete standard. The nominees already defeated a lot of competition, what is this seniority talk? It is very unfair to past winners. The identity of the person who made the criticism wasn't mentioned. In my eyes all the talk is rubbish. Hurting others with words like that is wrong!" Chow Yun Fat's CONFUCIUS did not resemble a Hong Kong film, why would it be nominated? The Hong Kong Film Award pointed out that CONFUCIUS had Hong Kong investors, in addition its producer, cinematographer and many workers were from Hong Kong. It absolutely met the qualifications.

The Hong Kong Film Award will be unveiled today. As in previous years, the event did not schedule a celebration as each film company set up their own. However this year joining the crowd would be the trend, Emperor and Huayi would hold a joint celebration in Tsim Sha Tsui; Josie Ho Chiu Yi's DREAM HOME and Teddy Robin Kwan's GALLANTS (DAI LUI TOI) often promoted together during their release so their
celebration would be joint as well.

[2009.05.28] NG SEE YUEN FEARS BRIGITTE LIN BACKING OUT

This year is Hong Kong film's 100th anniversary, but in the past during film productions industrial accidents have taken place or actors and stunt teams have suffered injuries. To provide film professionals with a more systematic guidelines in the film industry, Hong Kong Film Workers Union released "Hong Kong Film Worker Professional Production Guidelines and Industrial Safety Handbook" in hopes of bring to everyone's attention the importance of film industry safety.

Yesterday at the press conference, Hong Kong Film Worker Union chair Ng See Yuen, Hong Kong Directors Guild chair Gordon Chan Ka Seung and others were present. Lam Ka Tung was the host. Ng See Yuen pointed out that in the past many films had accidents, for example John Woo (Ng Yu Sum)'s RED CLIFF suffered a crew member fatality and stunt team injuries. He felt that such events should not happen so they decided to produce a guideline for the industry from their past experience. This guideline will be in two parts, in hopes that it would make Hong Kong film even more systematic.

Ng See Yuen would produce the Wong Kar Wai directed GRAND MASTER (YUT DOI JUNG SI), which he expressed was originally scheduled to start production in June and now postponed to July. He denied that Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha) would play Ip Man's wife. He admitted that earlier they dined with Ching Ha and she agreed. Yet they did not know what role she would play. He hoped that the reports would not change Ching Ha's mind. Now the screenplay is being written and the team has been checking out locations in Northeast China. Did Ching Ha have any condition for her comeback? He expressed that he did not know, but Ching Ha and Wong Kar Wai are great friends. They definitely would fully assist. Was he afraid of going head to head against Raymond Wong Pak Ming's IP MAN 2? He said, "No, the release dates are different. Many people are looking forward to seeing how Wong Kar Wai makes Ip Man. Ultimately it will give everyone a pleasant surprise."
