[2012.02.16] CHAPMAN TO IMPERSONATES ZHANG ZIYI

Chapman To Man Jat in the new film MR. AND MRS. GAMBLER (LAN DOH FU DAU LAN DOH CHAI) not only dressed up as THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI)'s Tony Leung Chiu Wai but also Zhang Ziyi.  In the film To Man Jat put on a high cut dress and performed kung fu.  Although he looked the part his thick and hairy leg was also on display.  He said, "Impersonating Leung Chiu Wai is easier than impersonating Zhang Ziyi because I am not too close with Zhang Ziyi."  He also said that the shoot had fake snow.  His mouth was open the entire time and thus he ate a lot of fake snow.

In the film Wong Jing's "Jing Girl" Hu Ran appeared in a bikini.  To Man Jat also showed off his fat during the performance.  How would To Man Jat rate Hu Ran?  He said, "She has a lot of potential.  (You are lucky!)  This is the benefit of working on a Wong Jing film."

[2011.12.10] TERENCE CHANG RECEIVES PRODUCER AWARD

CineAsia 2011 Gala final night banquet took place two nights ago.  Famous film producer Terence Chang Ka Chun received the Producer of the Decade honor.  Chang Ka Chun said that this award was an encouragement.  In the future he will keep working hard and produce even more good movies for the audience to enjoy.  In the past Chang Ka Chun has produced countless films, many of which had both good word of mouth and ideal box office.  Yet he has not made one that he was satisfied with.  He said, "I always feel the next one will be the best, but from an overall perspective, foreign film FACE/OFF is considered the most complete."

Speaking of future projects, Chang Ka Chun pointed out that in February he will produce the John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) directed SUN SEI LUEN (LIFE DEATH LOVE, tentative title).  This film will shoot in Beijing, Shanghai and Taiwan.  The female lead has already been confirmed to be Zhang Ziyi.  He said that this film has been in preparation for three months.  Originally it was to start production in August, but because the approval process it could not start work.  Ziyi has been waiting for them, for which they have been very grateful.  In addition, Li Bingbing was on the guest list as well, but because she was working on the foreign film RESIDENT EVIL V in Canada she could not attend.

[2011.11.06] ZHANG ZIYI IS HONORED IN ROME

Zhang Ziyi with the film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) won the sixth Rome Film Festival award for elegance and temperament and broke the streak of the award going to Italian actresses.  With the award in hand Zhang Ziyi said  with a smile, "This trip to Rome has been like an Italian feast, the award is like a bottle of champagne that was saved for our final celebration."

The film festival presented this award to Zhang Ziyi mainly for the numerous bright spots that she created in her art life.  The committee said, "She mixes strong performance abilities with harmony and elegant grace, all of which have been thoroughly on display in movies like CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON, HERO, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, MEMOIR OF A GEISHA and LOVE FOR LIFE.   No one is more deserving of this award for elegance and temperament than her."  Dressed in pink Zhang Ziyi first greeted everyone in Chinese then said in English, "First I would like to thank the Rome Film Festival for giving me this honor.  Film to me is everything.  Since age 17 film has occupied my life.  Such an encouragements very important to actors."  She also did not forget to emotionally thank director Gu Changwei.

Zhang Ziyi humorously said with the award when asked about being the first Chinese actress to win this Rome Film Festival award, "This trip to Rome has been like a rich Italian feast, the award is like a bottle of champagne that was saved for our final celebration."  She also said that she was very relaxed on this trip to Rome.  "I hope this small budget film would get more recognition.  If through the influence of this film festival even more people can experience the feelings that the film delivers, this is my greatest wish."  Gu Changwei also said that she already received a lot from this production, so this trip was more relaxing.  He said, "Through this film, Ziyi again returned to the sight of European viewers, which pleases me very much.  Making a movie is like putting together a party.  LOVE FOR LIFE has so many excellent actors, everyone performed so outstandingly.  Everyone because of the film have a period of time that they spent 'together', which was enough.  I have to thank everyone."

[2011.10.15] LOVE FOR LIFE COMPETES IN THE ROME INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

The Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Zhang Ziyi starred film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) was selected to compete in the 6th Rome International Film Festival.  In the film Sing Sing's subversive image has already become a focus.  With this time his acting had another breakthrough.  Many film critics were surprised that a native Hong Kong actor was able to bring to life a farm village youth.

After LOVE FOR LIFE's release, Sing Sing said that the biggest challenge of playing this character was capturing the farm villager's thinking and behavior, even how he walked.  Sing Sing revealed that actually he has always wanted to play this type of characters because he discovered that even he has never seen himself like this.

2011 FIRST youth film festival two nights ago took place at the Xinning Qinghai University.  Zhang Ziyi with LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) won Best Actress again and the "the Chinese filmmaker with the most international university student attention".  Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) with OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2) defeated SHAOLIN (SUN SIU LUM JI) and DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK)'s Andy Lau Tak Wa to win Best Actor.  In the Best Actress category, Zhang Ziyi had over 30,000 votes more than second place Fan Bingbing.

This event hoped through young university student exchanges to discover even more new filmmakers.  When jury members and guest presenters Teddy Chan Tak Sum and Guan Hu presented the award to Zhang Ziyi, she humorously said, "I too just ended my summer vacation.  I am preparing to start school with my course DANGEROUS LIAISON, thank you everyone for your recognition and high grade of my course last year LOVE FOR LIFE.  I hope very much to have the chance to work with young directors in the future.  I too hope that I will be able to provide them with an even better platform, for young filmmakers with ideas in China to be able to display their own stage."  At the same time she again won the "Chinese filmmaker with the most international university student attention".  She took a deep breath, carried that heavy "brick", smiled and said, "Tonight all the friends who won said that this award was heavy like a brick.  I too told friends that this could be called the 'youth film golden brick award'.  I volunteer to be the best spokesperson."

Ziyi also said, "Among Chinese actresses I have to the one who have been beaten with bricks the most and the most viciously.  Yet I want to tell everyone, as long as you still have a breath, as long as you haven't been beaten to death, you have to bravely stand up and happily run toward your goal and your dream."  This self ridicule won the cheers and the applause of the entire venue.  Later reporters asked her about her gossip with Leon Lai Ming.  She said, "It's absurd.  I hope from now on people will keep making up stories for me, after fooling reporters they can fool me."

The Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Zhang Ziyi starred film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) two nights ago held a charity premiere at Admiralty. Lead actress Zhang Ziyi did not attend. Before the premiere, Sing Sing first attended an AIDS event. Because the movie was about AIDS patients, the film worked with the China AIDS Initiative Hong Kong chapter. Sing Sing in support of the event wore a red ribbon on his chest.

Sing Sing shared with guests the tragedy of AIDS patient discrimination. Because he played an AIDS patient in the film, he deeply felt it. During the shoot he cried many times as well. He said, "You can be born with AIDS, babies can catch it in the womb. In this production several real patients worked with us. We not only made a movie but also a documentary about how the patients lived with us." Sing Sing said that during the shoot he constantly played with an child with AIDS, but he would not be infected.

Why was lead actor Zhang Ziyi absent? He said that she was promoting in Singapore. He said, "Actually it's no big deal. This time we have nine promotional stops, I am only going to three. The most important is bringing attention to this event." He also said that for this film he spent three months to learn Shunde dialect and understand patient symptoms because he had to play from getting sick, being sick to passing away. He said, "I have read many film reviews. Even my idol John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) praised me, I am very happy." Has his rumored girlfriend Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam) seen the film? He said that she has not. Did he know that Lynn has returned to Nanjing to visit her father? Sing Sing said that he would not discuss anything else.

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Zhang Ziyi's first film together, LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) will be released on the 16th. In the film Sing Sing was the only Hong Kong actor. In order to play the farmer character, Sing Sing provided his own voice and spent three months to study the unique Shanbei accent with an instructor.

The film was about poor farmers who sold blood and caught AIDS, which led to Sing Sing and Ziyi's ordinary yet passionate love story. Because Sing Sing had to express the AIDS patient experience, he had a deep understanding of their various symptoms. However, the always in shape Sing Sing thus had to let himself go with not only freckles on his face but also rough and dry skin. Sing Sing did not mind at all. "Although right now I have certain materialistic needs, once I get into character I already turn the farm life into my real life. It has quite a return to simplicity feeling. Looking back at me then, I really have a sense of joy. This belongs to another side that Sing Sing has." Sing Sing also talked about working with Ziyi and even said daringly that Ziyi was the most excellent, direct and talented among the actresses who he has worked with. They did not feel like they were acting but instead more like melting into reality. He could no longer described them with chemistry, they almost became one. He truly never had such an exchange with a co-star. Would he really fall for her? Sing Sing said that the film displayed an absolute type of love, in reality he had to learn to isolate from it.

How did he see rumored girlfriend Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam)? Sing Sing said, "In the past decade or so I wouldn't inject anything personal into film, I don't want everyday life to mix with the character." At the time Ziyi just broke down, would she inject her emotions into her character? Sing Sing thought as Ziyi said, life always had different stages. When she interpreted her LOVE FOR LIFE character, she would put herself completely into it. She almost could not be differentiated between which one was real and which one was acting. She was really happy that at the time she had this character to keep her company. Sing Sing also agreed with what she said, "Without much life experience, she might not be able to play this character. (The outside said that she was demanding and troublesome?) I didn't sense that at all, she is very serious and hard working person at work. Outside of course would have different noises, but interpersonal relationship depends on luck. After the wrap I feel she put in an effort."

Sing Sing's acting in LOVE FOR LIFE was elevated and received good reviews. Would he like to win Best Actor again? Sing Sing never thought about it. Although he won two Golden Horse awards, this was beyond his control. If he acted just for awards, the character absolutely would not be played well. he would not be trapped under this baggage. He only hoped to play a different him and would be very satisfied with any improvement.

Just finishing his Beijing concert, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing yesterday attended an eye wear store opening. About a pole breaking off high above the stage during the concert, he was very scared and thanked the team for using a day without rest to repair it. He also thanked the audience for its enthusiastic support, understanding and tolerance. He said online that the performance was very unforgettable. He also thanked Zhang Ziyi for returning to see his concert and giving his flowers, which made him very happy.

Kwok Fu Sing and Zhang Ziyi starred in the film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI), which will open June 16. Playing a couple with AIDS, their acting was challenged fully. Due to AIDS lowering immunity, Sing Sing's character often suffered from illness. He said, "In order to express pain, I twisted up my facial muscles and had to scream with all my might. I scared the team stiff." In one scene he had another fever, Zhang Ziyi kept going to the well to get water to cool his temperature down but to no avail. She then stripped down to her underwear, dove into the bathtub to chill her body then held him to cool him down. Zhang Ziyi during the shoot did not hesitate at all, but later she revealed that a female viewer wanted to intimate her. The viewer thought holding a feverish husband romantic, but her husband said that if his wife was Zhang Ziyi, Sing Sing definitely would have been crushed to death. Zhang Ziyi did not know whether to laugh or cry.

As for his performance, Sing Sing described that a different Kwok Fu Sing could be seen. Yet he would not grade his own performance. Would he try comedy? He honestly said that he would like to and hoped to have the chance. He even hoped to be able to work with directors like Zhang Yimou and Feng Xiaogang in the future. After returning to Hong Kong, he will work on a new film, in which he will play a couple with Rene Liu (Lau Yeuk Ying).

Hollywood director Wayne Wang directed SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN held a press conference on the 17th. Producer Wendi Murdoch appeared along with Li Bingbing and Gianna Jun Ji-Hyun. As for the earlier piping hot Zhang Ziyi resignation, Wendi Murdoch clarified that at the time Zhang Ziyi resigned due to health and scheduling issues. She stated, "Our relationship now remains decent."

The film originally was three women Wendi Murdoch, Zhang Ziyi and MGM boss lady's collaboration project and Zhang Ziyi was confirmed to star. Yet before the film started production, Zhang Ziyi who was in the "ink spilling gate" incident suddenly resigned. Reportedly Zhang Ziyi and Wendi Murdoch were at odds over conflict of interest. Wendi Murdoch said that Zhang Ziyi resigned indeed due to health and scheduling issues. "Ziyi was ill at the time, the timing wasn't right either so she didn't perform." As for her relationship with Zhang Ziyi now, Wendi Murdoch said, "I saw Ziyi in Shanghai, it's still pretty good." Later Wendi Murdoch talked about exploring the Chinese market, she hoped that more and more Hollywood producers and directors would work with China, focus on telling current Chinese stories, and write scripts with Hollywood teams. She also hoped to through SNOW Li Bingbing and Jun Ji-Hyun would become big Hollywood stars.

Speaking of the cross border collaboration with Jun Ji-Hyun, Li Bingbing thought that language was not the only way to communicate. "In the film at the age of seven, we promised that we would miss each other for a lifetime. We tried to get a perception of each other despite not understanding each other." In the film they communicated in English. Li Bingbing thought even more exchanges came from perception. "That exchange was rather magical. When I got to the set, I already saw Jun Ji-Hyun completely in character. When our hands first touched, we had a electrifying feeling."

The Mainland company Poly Bona yesterday held a party in Cannes to introduce Tsui Hark's FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE (LUNG MOON FEI GAP). Film company boss Yu Dong announced that this year it will make 12 films, including a Zhang Ziyi starred Hollywood produced action film. The event also aired trailers for movies like GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MOR SHOOK SI), Lau Ching Wan's moustache look also appeared for the first time.

Aside from Tsui Hark and Shi Nansun, Tsui Hark's buddy Johnnie To Kei Fung also attended. Somewhat drunk he joked that he was partying in Cannes every night. As for Donnie Yen Chi Tan's interest in working with him, To Kei Fung joked, "The strongest in history? Where is he? Why doesn't he approach me!" To Kei Fung said that because he already had many film projects, although he was interested in working with Chi Tan too he would still have to see whether his schedule would be able to
coordinate.

To Kei Fung also mentioned Yen Chi Tan on a television interview, "He is the strongest in the universe, I am the weakest in the universe. He is more and more mature, a bit of a jerk, but not as big of one as me! Haha!"

The film's story was tragic, but the team recently has been funny to attract viewers. Zhang Ziyi wrote online, "LOVE FOR LIFE has three treasures: cinematography, music score and Director Gu; the promotional event has three treasures: fans, microblog and national tour; viewers have three treasures: lover, tissue and ticket. I still have one great treasure to talk about: good film reviews globally!" Sing Sing also expressed his love online, "I Zhao Deyi LOVE FOR LIFE Shang Qinqin!"

Li Bingbing yesterday left to promote the film SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN in Cannes. While Li Bingbing spoke with reporters at the Beijing airport. Many travelers surrounded her to ask for autographs and photos and took Li Bingbing 20 minutes to get 100 meters. Fan Bingbing's "magic crane dress" stole the show at the opening ceremony, Li Bingbing thought it was good. They both were Chinese and brought gory to Chinese film, they did not need to compare with each other as each person had her own style. In recent years the outside cared more about female star's fashion on the red carpet than the movies. Li Bingbing said that anyone would want to show the world her most beautiful side. Red carpet beauty contest was important, but all the preparation was made for even more international friends to see Chinese films. She also hoped that even more Chinese actors would reach the great world stage. Veteran film producer Shi Nansun already arrived in Cannes to serve on the 64th Cannes International Film Festival jury along with French director Olivier Assayas (Maggie Cheung Man Yuk's former husband), Hong Kong director Johnnie To Kei Fung and others. Yesterday Shi Nansun talked in an interview about Chinese film absence from this year's competition. She said that when Chinese films rose they were very fresh to international film industry. Now the competition has returned to normal, it is good since now is not the age of when that wave rose. As for the lack of artistic achievement as Chinese directors raced to make commercial films, she thought that it was expected since the enormous Chinese market was too tempting; however she said that Chinese film still had a very long way to go in order to break into the international market. She said that the 80s everyone only knew Bruce Lee. After he passed Jackie Chan started. Among the current Chinese film overseas market, Shi Nansun said that action film was the easiest to receive recognition. Jackie Chan and Jet Li (Lee Nin Kit)'s draw still far exceeds Donnie Yen Chi Tan's now. She said, "The U.S. has buyers of Yen Chi Tan movies, but they buy his video market. Ultimately he in recent years started to rise in the Mainland, he still needs some time."

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing recently has been promoting the film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) with Zhang Ziyi and director Gu Changwei. In order to coordinate with the film's multiple angle promotion, Gu Changwei asked Sing Sing to write a theme song. From Sing Sing's 20th anniversary record the song, ALWAYS BEEN HERE was selected to become the film theme song.

Gu Changwei suggested for Sing Sing and Zhang Ziyi to sing it as a duet to strengthen this "terminal romance" sense of beauty in the film. He also asked song writer Peter Kam Pui Tat to produce the song in Hong Kong. Kam Put Tat said that the duo's first collaboration was unusually in tune. Sing Sing was also very happy about singing for the first time with Zhang Ziyi, the feeling was very fresh. Sing Sing said, "Ziyi although was not a singer, her voice was very soft. She knew how to use her emotional voice, very quickly she got into song recording condition. We worked together and completed the recording in one night." Sing Sing said that Ziyi was a good singer with a lot of potential, like working on a movie with her she was very focused. Ziyi also was very happy to sing the theme song with Sing Sing and said that one of the verses from the song was her favorite. "This deepest of love, never walks away, promise to always be here, love me!" They both said that this was a very pleasant collaboration experience.

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Zhang Ziyi have been continuously promoting their film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) in the Mainland. After Beijing, Chengdu and Shenzhen, two days ago on Mother's Day they went to Shanghai premiere press conference. Zhang Ziyi even revealed that in the scene in which she went naked into cold water to cool down she did not use a double. She honestly said that during the shoot she had no hesitation at all. She thought that this scene was worth her doing anything for. "If this happened to me personally I would do that too.
