The film ROMANCING IN THIN AIR (GO HOI BUT JI LUEN II) last night held its premiere at the Sky 100.  In attendance were Sammi Cheng Sau Man, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Wilfred Lau Ho Lung, directors Johnnie To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fai.  The venue was decorated mainly in white and spray with artificial snow, making it rather romantic.  Playing a couple in the film Goo Jai and Sammi held hands as they appeared and posed for photos sweetly.  Yet when her real significant other was mentioned, Sammi declined further discussion and again clarified that she had no plan to wed.

Goo Jai and Sammi worked together again after eight years.  He said that actually it was more than eight years.  If they counted television series they have not worked together for over a decade.  However because they knew each other for a long time they had a lot of chemistry.  Sammi said that off screen her friendship with Goo Jai has already been elevated to another level.  She also thought that Goo Jai has matured a lot.

To Sir revealed that Goo Jai was very hairy and this time even worked with real facial hair.  He truly was very manly.  In the film Goo Jai played an all purpose artist, but he claimed in reality he was not.  Although he has directed and sung, he did not know how to play the piano and write songs.  In one scene he had to write a song for Sammi, he asked her for help.  Goo Jai also said that in one scene he had to carry Sammi from a sea of tree.  He happened to not feel well that day, so the shoot was both very tough and unforgettable.

With Valentine's Day on the way, this film will be released on Valentine's Day.  Sammi said that she will not be in Hong Kong that day.  Has she prepared a gift for her boyfriend Andy Hui Chi On?  She sweetly said, "I am not talking about this, let's just talk about the movie."  Will she ask people to buy tickets?  Sammi stated that she will not be in Hong Kong.  How will Goo Jai spend Valentine's Day?  He said that he will spend it with To Sir and joked, "Actually Christmas last year, this New Year's Day and Valentine's Day, Easter I will be with him.  For the movie I can't do anything about it."

In addition, Sammi and On Jai reportedly will wed in August.  Earlier they even went bed shopping together.  Sammi reiterated that she had no plan to wed and she did not want to respond again.  That day they only passed by.  Reportedly they went to buy a bed for sex.  Sammi joked, "Wow!  I am terrified, don't talk about this.  Let's just be together for awhile."  Will Goo Jai keep a low profile on his romance as well?  He learned from Sammi and said, "Let's talk about the movie."  Sammi heard and joked that he was mimicking her.

[2012.02.02] SAMMI CHENG IS PASSING THE AGE OF MARRIAGE ANXIETY

The Sammi Cheng Sau Man and Louis Koo Tin Lok starred ROMANCING IN THIN AIR (GO HOI BUT JI LUEN II) will premiere tonight and be officially released on February 9.  Yesterday Sammi and director Johnnie To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fai conducted a Mainland media interview. Speaking of marriage, Sammi admitted that for now she had no wedding plan and said that she has already passed the age when she would panic about marriage.  She also said that during the shoot although being in high altitude was very tough, her boyfriend Andy Hui Chi On kept encouraging her.

Sammi, To Sir and Wai Ka Fai accepted the interview.  In the film Sammi was more sensible about love.  Was she the same way in reality?  She said, "Very sensible?  Actually he and I in not so public places would be like an average couple.  If I need his opinion we would very sensibly chat."  She also said that now she would not throw tantrums, perhaps because she was out of temper.  She said, "The Lord absolutely wouldn't let me explode, which is an enormous change since my depression.  He benefits a lot from that."  Has her elders rushed her to marry?  She said, "So far I don't have any plan, maybe the Hong Kong media are more anxious for me at my age, but I have already passed the age of panic.  I have already gone from very anxious to not anxious.  My family is rather relaxed because at least I am dating."  She also joked that she was thick skinned so in the Lunar New Year she still accepted red pockets.

On Valentine's Day will she watch this movie with On Jai?  She said that she would not be in Hong Kong then, he might go with his friends!  However during the shoot she kept sharing her thoughts with him.  Two nights ago after the screening she shared with him as well.  He always encouraged her, telling her not to be too stressed and not to carry all the burden.  Thus now she could be more relaxed with the result.  Sammi also revealed that after completing two weeks of promotion she will fulfill a dream of charity.  Last year she went to teach English in the Yunnan mountain region elementary school with two friends, which she thought was very meaningful and missed such visits.  This year she will go elsewhere but this time she will not teach.  Speaking of her good friend Andy Lau Tak Wa's impending fatherhood, she said, "I sent him a text message to congratulate him because this is his dream.  After spending so much time on his show business career and art, now it is the time to truly enjoy life.  I believe his daughter will definitely be very beautiful."

In addition, Wai Ka Fai and To Kei Fung have worked together on many classic romantic films.  They felt that they made too many city films before so this time they deliberately went far away from the city.  Wai Ka Fai said that during the shoot he was worried.  Because of the high altitude, during location scouting he had quite a headache.  The location was very pretty though, so after returning he and To Sir still decided to shoot in Yunnan.  To Sir even praised Sammi's performance.  He said, "I am very satisfied with her performance.  She is more mature than before, her acting is much better too."

[2011.12.06] SAMMI CHENG MAKES ANIMAL FRIENDS IN YUNNAN

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Johnnie To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fai produced romance ROMANCING IN THIN AIR (GO HOI BUT JI LUEN II) shot on location in Shangri-La.  Sammi Cheng Sau Man aside from work took pictures of animals.  Louis Koo Tin Lok often accompanied a bicycle and said that he spent more time riding the bicycle in Shangri-La than ever before.  However, due to the lacking hygienic condition, going to the bathroom was a big problem for the cast.

Because Shangri-La was in high altitude, the air was thin.  Behind the cameras everyone had to slow down their movement, otherwise they would have breathing difficulty or require oxygen tank assistance.  However the more regular bathroom there was very far from the location.  Going there would require a lot of energy.  The closer ones to the location was very filthy and smelly.  Goo Jai said that at first he chose to go to the normal bathroom, but after a few rounds he had difficulty breathing.  Finally he had to submit too.

Sammi treated the local animals like her friends.  Originally the team worried that the animals would scare her, but in one scene she kept taking photos on animals on her first trip to Shangri-La she lived out the act.  With the team's camera she kept shooting animals.  She pointed out that the chance to be so close to nature was very rare for city people so she had to cherish it properly.

The Sammi Cheng Sau Man and Louis Koo Tin Lok starred ROMANCING IN THIN AIR (GO HOI BUT JI LUEN II) will be released on Valentine's Day.  Earlier Sammi, Goo Jai, director Johnnie To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fi attended a Mainland media interview in Hong Kong.  This time Sammi and Goo Jai reunited after LOVE FOR ALL SEASONS (BAK NIN HO HUP) eight years ago.  Goo Jai pointed out that Sammi's biggest change was she was happier.  She also liked to eat and would try different delicacies at different places.  Sammi pointed out that Goo Jai was more mature and had a humorous side.

Director To Kei Fung also praised Sammi.  He pointed out that Sammi had a very hard time.  In the film she had to interpret a very deep love, but she had to be very suppressive.  In comparison to seven years ago, Sammi now was much more confident and felt like another person.  She has become gentler.  Sammi joked that the director left the hardest scene to play for the end, leaving her reluctant to release her emotions.  Wai Ka Fai said that they have always made city romantic films.  This time he wanted to express love in another format, because the location had nothing materialistic and only had real hearts.

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Johnnie To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fai produced, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) and Gao Yuanyuan starred DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART (DAN SUN NAM NUI) officially opened on March 31st. Yesterday according to Mainland cinema circuits, after the Ching Ming Festival holiday ended the film already exceeded 60 million at the box office. At the same time in Hong Kong this film also crushed other films to be the box office championship. Its Hong Kong box office already exceeded 5 million. According to circuit prediction, the film's true viewing peak actually will be the upcoming weekend when it will break 100 million.

Mainland cinema circuit operator analyzed, "March had many films, but most were small budget films. They lacked topics and had a very hard time motivating cinema popularity and heat. However DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART not only had a strong team, the biggest advantage was it was topical. Each viewer would relate to it, female viewers in particular. At least in these two hours everyone wanted to be the Gao Yuanyuan played Cheng Zixin."

In addition, aside from the film's enthusiastic response in the mainland, in Hong Kong it also won the box office. For the Hong Kong film market that has always been foreign film driven it was indeed very a rare sight.

[2011.03.23] GAO YUANYUAN CLUELESSLY SUPPORTS JACKIE CHAN

courtesy of takungpao.com

Gao Yuanyuan, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) and producer Wai Ka Fai two nights ago attended the DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART (DAN SUN NAM NUI) premiere.

Working with Jackie Chan on ROB B HOOD (BO BUI GAI WAT) 5 years ago, Gao Yuanyuan said about Mainland star Xu Jinglei's earlier "kiss" with Jackie Chan in Beijing, "The news is nonsense, I don't want to talk about it." Later she said that goodbye kiss actually was very normal, but perhaps it was a big deal when it happened between Chinese people. When she worked with Jackie Chan, she pointed out Big Brother treated everyone great and was not arrogant at all. he would even do set chores like moving boxes, which surprised her. She also felt that a kiss was only a polite gesture, but reporters claimed that Big Brother kissed Xu Jinglei's lips. She said, "On the cheek was fine, but on the lips was too passionate."

Goo Jai revealed that earlier for the new film HIGH ALTITUDE ROMANCE 2 (GO HOI BUT JI LUEN II) he worked on drinking and riding a motorcycle scene. During the shoot he did not know about a slope and carefully went off a hill. He said, "At the time I was already alert and jumped off right away, but my hand landed first on the ground. Finally the right wrist tendon was torn. However the doctor said it was very minor. The crew even praised that my jump looked great!" After the DON'T promotion Goo Jai would return to work in Shangri-La and still had water scenes and action scenes. He honestly said that he would like to take two to three months off to go on vacation with his family, but now it would be tough. He would still fight for it though.

The 35th Annual Hong Kong International Film Festival yesterday held its opening ceremony at the Convention Center. Guests included the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society chief Wong Ying Wai and Film Festival ambassador Miriam Yeung Chin Wa. This year has two
opening films, Johnnie To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fai's DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART (DAN SUN NAM NUI) and QUATTRO HONG KONG II. The stars of the films Louis Koo Tin Lok, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), Gao Yuanyuan, JJ Jia (Ga Hiu Sun), Larisa Angela (Shui Sa), Wai Ying Hung, Michelle Wai (Si Nga), and Lam Ka Tung walked the red carpet. Wong Ying Wai said that Japanese film is an important part of Asian film. With the recent earthquake and tsunami that Japan suffered, the event sent its deepest consolation and well wishes and wished for luck for the Japanese people.

Chin Wa said that she was very honored to be the film festival ambassador and that enjoying different films during the film festival was a great chance to add value, widen her own range and help her future performance. This time she would like to see the most COME RAIN COME SHINE and E-LOVE. Playing more comedy in the past, in recent years Chin Wa made more romantic films. She was happy to be able to try different genres. In June she will work on LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) sequel. She honestly said that she would like to finish it faster because she needed to keep trying for a child. She said, "Actually I have already been trying very hard, but it depends on fate in particular now. Although negative energy existed before as well, I cherish everything and think that family was very important. I also have to eat more and stop losing weight."

Goo Jai last night appeared with facial hair, which was his look for his new film ROMANCING IN THIN AIR (GO HOI BUT JI LUEN). In the story after a heart break he went into the mountains to become a wild man. As for his expectation for DON'T, Goo Jai said that the Mainland film screening responses were great and received praised online. Thus he hoped the Hong Kong audience would like it too.

The provocatively dressed Yuanyaun honestly said that she was used to the cold. As for choosing between Goo Jai and Ng Yin Cho for a boyfriend, she honestly said that she would choose Ng Yin Cho because Goo Jai in the film was very unfaithful. She thought that love was one on one, not one on two or three. If in real life both pursued her, she said that it was not something to be happy about because one was enough. Two was not too good. Did the single Goo Jai meet her mate criteria? She said that in the film Goo Jai was very cute. In reality he was also very friendly and kind, but she did not understand him too much. If she chose him as a boyfriend from that she would feel bad.

The Johnnie To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fai produced film DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART (DAN SUN NAM NUI) two nights ago held a screening in Beijing. Buddies Tsui Hark, Ching Siu Tung, Mainland director Wang Xiaoshuai, Zhang Guoli and Huang Yi attended in support. Nearly 300 people attended.

Zhang Guoli was asked if he was a woman would he choose Louis Koo Tin Lok or Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho)? He joked that he would choose the middle one in the poster (Gao Yuanyuan). He said that he and To Kei Fung were good friends. He has always wanted to be in his movies, but he always declined to cast him. After the screening, everyone spoke with the press. Mainland director Wang Xiaoshuai pointed out that Gao Yuanyuan was very refreshing and elegant. He would give the film a score of 9.8. He thought that he would be more like Ng Yin Cho in the film. Tsui Hark said that as a man, he thought the courting ideas in the films had variety and truly worth men to learn from. Women would be very excited after watching it.

Gao Yuanyuan due to work did not arrived until after the show. She immediately raised a glass to toast the directors and friends. When she toasted Wang Xiaoshuai she called him "Comrade Wang Xiaoshuai". Later Director Wang was asked about that, he joked that he like Ng Yin Cho waited for her for many years but in the end he became a "comrade". Yuanyuan did not know whether to laugh or to cry.

In addition, Koo Tin Lok said that this production felt like "a mouthful of sugar, a mouthful of crap". Everyone thought that he had an easy time for this film because he had different girls at his disposal. Taiwan model Larisa Angela (Shui Sa) stood out the most. She in order to stop Goo Jai's nosebleed lay on top of Goo Jai. Hong Kong representative JJ Jia (Ga Hiu Sun) also wore a low cut dress when she met with Goo Jai. Seemingly Goo Jai with less tolerance would not be able to handle them. Yet each time after Goo Jai got lucky he would anger his beloved Gao Yuanyuan. In one
scene Yuanyuan slapped him and threw water at him. Yuanyuan honestly said that she was somewhat sorry about slapping Goo Jai. Because at that moment she completely had to imagine Goo Jai as a very, very, very bad man so she slapped him hard five times and threw water at Goo Jai five times. Goo Jai instead laughed and said that it was nothing.

[2011.03.03] JOHNNIE TO JOKINGLY CALLS WAI KA FAI NAIVE

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Media Asia invested city romance DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART (DAN SUN NAM NUI) will be released at the end of the month. Producer and director Johnnie To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fai two days ago attended a Beijing University film promotion. They not only were invited on a Beijing University tour but also received a passionate welcome from over 1,000 students of many Beijing universities at the event.

To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fai first visited the school's famous Yet To Be Named Lake then attended the event at the Beijing University 100th Anniversary Memorial Hall. Beijing University film society and Qinghua University film and television critic association organized the event, which attracted over 1,000 university students. The directors also were invited to be honorary chairs of the two organizations.

The event began with television series that the two directors worked on to when they formed a film company. Then the event played the DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART trailer. During the question and answer segment, a student asked about the difference between the new film DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART and older films NEEDING YOU (GOO NAM GUA NUI) and LOVE ON A DIET (SAU SUN NAM NUI). To Sir responded, "The previous two were more authentically Hong Kong stories, this time added Guo Yuanyuan as the character who came from the Mainland to work in Hong Kong. The audience range was wider and no longer limited to Hong Kong. However in general they are all metropolis romantic films."

A student asked the directors whether they had the romantic point of view in the film. Wai Ka Fai said, "In 20 years I only had one, that was my wife." To Sir said, "I am not as naive as Mr. Wai. Because modern young people have too many choices, love has become less valuable. I personally don't believe in everlasting love."

Miriam Yeung Chin Wa

The 35th Hong Kong International Film Festival yesterday held a press conference. Johnnie To Kei Fung, Wai Ka Fai, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, Stanley Kwan Kam Peng, Lam Ka Tung, Michelle Wai (Si Nga) and Hong Kong International Film Festival Association chief Wong Ying Wai attended. At the event Wong Ying Wai announced that Yeung Chin Wa will be the festival ambassador and this film festival "Filmmaker in Focus" will be Wai Ka Fai. The opening films will be the To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fai directed DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART (DAN SUN NAM NUI) and the four director shot short film QUATTRO HONG KONG 2, which will include the Kwan Kam Peng directed, Lam Ka Tung, Terence Yin (Wan Chi Wai) and Hiro Hayama starred 13 MINUTES IN THE LIVES OF...(SEUNG HO TO); Malaysian director Ho Yu-Hang directed, Si Nga, Chan Ka Lok and Wai Ying Hung starred OPEN VERDICT; Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul's M HOTEL and Filipino director Brillante Mendoza's PURPLE. Some of the actors attended yesterday's press conference.

The film festival will take place between March 20 and April 5 in Hong Kong. Wai Ka Fai yesterday said that he was very happy to be selected, which was considered a report card for himself. He said that most of the films were Milkway Image productions, so it was a Milky Way
report card too. Wong Ying Wai and the host introduced Yeung Chin Wa as Best Actress Yeung. Yeung Chin Wa asked not to be called that and joked that she itched when she heard it. Wai Ka Fai during the interview said that he has been in the business for over a decade. This time was a recognition. As for his favorite film, he said it was RUNNING ON KARMA (DAI JET LO).

To Kei Fung earlier presented the Hong Kong Film Critic Society Best Actress Award to Yeung Chin Wa, will he work with Best Actress Chin Wa? To Kei Fung said that he will even if Chin Wa did not win, only that he had three to four films on hand already and he did not have the time. He said that at the ceremony he saw Chin Wa's performance highlight and thought it was entertaining. Chin Wa was much better and more natural than he imagined. Chin Wa earlier said that if she had the chance to work on To Kei Fung's film, she was prepared to be yelled at? To Kei Fung said that he would not. Chin Wa was very smart and would resolve it very quickly. As for the absence of the DON'T cast at the press conference, To Kei Fung said that everyone was very busy and said that now with five lakes and four seas, the environment was very different of the New Territories, Hong Kong and Kowloon before. They could not take time from the production to attend like they did before. This was the world now.

Chin Wa said about To Kei Fung's praise that she knew how to resolve and did not need to be worried about getting yelled at, "Is he calling me mischievous? He is just being nice. If he wants to yell I can't dodge it." Chin Wa said that since she was young she was yelled at all the time, sometimes scolding was deserved and beneficial. Speaking of To Kei Fung's compliment of her acting as natural, Chin Wa happily said that To Kei Fung's comment was very important and had to be magnified ten times. Would Chin Wa recommend her husband Real Ting Chi Ko to make movies? She said no because working together would easily lead to arguments. Being her husband was already enough. She also said that her husband was not interested in acting. "You know just from looking at his belly. No male star would be like that. He has to play young male leads with his look, but he is so chok. No way." Chin Wa said that her husband early in his career actually worked on the film FIRST OPTION (FEI LUNG). In it he played a cop but ended up looking like a crook. Perhaps because of that no one asked me to make another movie. She said that if her husband played a tragic scene she would definitely make fun of him, because he was already very nervous about speaking in front of a camera.

Chin Wa said that as the film festival ambassador, she needed to promote films. Will she bring her husband to the movies with her? She joked, "Sure, but I don't know if I can buy one ticket get one free?" Kwan Kam Peng said that the short film 13 MINUTES IN THE LIVES OF...received help from the Leisure and Cultural Service Department and shot successfully at the World Expo. The short film was about 15 minutes long. Earlier Kwan Kam Peng reportedly replaced Kwai Lun-mei with Fan Bingbing in his new film HIS KINGDOM. Kwan Kam Peng honestly said that he has known Fan Bingbing for a long time. They would meet and discuss collaborations but they did not lock down on this film. Kwai Lun-Mei has not been confirmed yet, as they had to have a script before casting. Si Nga said that she played Wai Ying Hung's daughter in OPEN VERDICT, she said that she already liked Sister Ying Hung when she watched THE INSPECTOR WEARS SKIRTS (BA WONG FA). She said, "Some said that we look alike, after hearing that I was very happy."

[2010.07.22] DANIEL WU KISSES GAO YUANYUAN BEHIND HIS WIFE'S BACK

courtesy of singtao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

Johnnie To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fai co-directed DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART (DAN SUN NAM NUI) has moved its production to Suzhou to wrap up the shoot. Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) who will walk down the aisle in Hong Kong with Lisa S. on the 28th under To Kei Fung's order cheated first in Suzhou with a passionate kiss with female lead Gao Yuanyuan. Ng Yin Cho joked, "I never expected that I would do something to betray my wife now, tell her to go after Director To! Hahaha! Actually she understands that it's for the movie, she is not that petty."

To Kei Fung chose Suzhou for the wrap because he thought Suzhou was a very pretty place. He even revealed that in a few days Louis Koo Tin Lok will join the team; but because it was Ng Yin Cho's final day, Director To popped champagne bottles to celebrate his wedding next week. Ng Yin Cho in the film worked on a proposal scene with Gao Yuanyuan. To Kei Fung told him to get on one knee, take out a diamond ring and ask Gao whether she was willing to marry him. During rehearsal Ng Yin Cho was somewhat embarrassed and often broke into laughter. He even said to the director, "I truly have never done this. (How did Ng Yin Cho propose to Lisa S.?) It wasn't like this at all. One day I was having dinner with her and talked about having children. We both felt it was time. I then asked her if she was willing to marry me, she said yes. Just like that I
proposed and she agreed. It wasn't romantic at all. Ultimately we have been together for eight years, so just now was my first time proposing on my knee."
